water birth in hospital
For those of you who have had a water birth in a hospital, how was your experience? Was it what you were expecting? If you don't mind could you share your stories? I've been reading a lot about water births and I'd really like to have one, this is my first baby and I'll be 13 weeks on Sunday, I have an appointment with my midwife next Wednesday and plan on asking her if she does water births. Anything you can share about your experience would be wonderful:)

I planned my third birth as a water birth! However my baby was op so it was uncomfortable to sit in the tub bc of the pressure on my back so I got out and delivered in the bed which was surprisingly less painful than in the water. Probably bc of baby position though! The contractions get intense but the recovery is amazing! When I pushed all the pain of contractions went away. It really didn't hurt. I progressed faster out of the tub also! Everyone is different though! Good luck! :)

i'm also very interested in hearing replies! i'm in the same boat as Stella-nova. Water births at home, at a hospital, or at birthing center are all helpful information i'd like to hear about if its ok to add on to the original question ;) Please and Thank you!

My third I tried for a water birth. It was pretty warm and comfortable. I kept falling asleep between contractions leaning in the sides and the water was so high I kept thinking I would drown. Obvious I did it was just an odd thought I kept having. DH was in it with me and that helped during contraction as I was having back labor. What helped with that was having DH push on my lower back pretty hard.
I was able to have the iv inserted into my wrist but not hooked up to the bag so I could move around. After about 4 hours I ended up getting out because I could feel that my body wasn't progressing and turns out dd was head down but turned the wrong way so she wasn't descending. I was so exhausted by the time my midwife got dd turned the right way I was too tired to get in the pool again.
I will be going for a water birth again this pregnancy.

I'm about to follow all of you ladies bc i too want a water birth. This is my first pregnancy and im more interested in the more natural non medicated approach.

Babies 2 & 4 were water births for me. I found the water to ease my pain considerably and relax me instantly. I liked that I could flip over without any effort to get comfortable. I am planning a water birth for #5. I can't think of anything negative about either of my water birth experiences.

My hospital only had one pool also I do believe, but I'm gonna stay hopeful. As far as I know water birth rates here where I live are very low and the Water births that do take placeare at ones home

I want to do water birth for this one(my 3rd). But my hospital only has one AND you're only allowed to labor in it, not deliver. So I almost feel like if I get that close to having baby and they drag me out of the tub I'm not going to be happy. I'm not sure if I should opt for water birth based on that.

Why won't they let you deliver in it? Doesn't that defeat the purpose and the name of it?
