I had a midwife and I loved it. I rotated with about 5 of them to where I could see all of them so I would be comfortable with whoever was on call. They were very relaxed and I felt like I had more of a personal level of comfort with them. They asked me to voice my opinion every step of the way. I switched from a doctor to the midwives in my first trimester due to a bad ER incidence. With that being said, I'm sure there are lots of doctors that have that connection with their patients. Unfortunately, mine was not one of them.

Most maternity services in Australia are via midwife. And most babies are delivered by midwives. They are great. I like being in a hospital with Obstratrician's as well but they only step in if needed

I'm NZ primary care is midwives. I had two really great midwives and loved it. My twin birth I had hospital midwives and OBS and hated it. And everything went badly wrong.

I had an OB with my first and absolutely hated him. I think he was just a particularly bad dr but I decided to go with the midwives this time at the same clinic. So far she is 100 times better. I didn't even see my OB at my first appointment last time, just the nurse but this time I sat and talked with my midwife for over 30 minutes at my first appointment. She listened to all my concerns and said there is absolutely no reason I should be as miserable as I was last time and really seemed like she was going to work hard to help me. She even had me schedule to see her in 1 week instead of 4 so she can make sure my sickness is under control and that I don't have any other concerns. She seems to be just as knowledgeable and capable as an OB, the biggest difference I see so far is that she really seems to care about her patients and wants them to be comfortable instead of just checking things of a list and pushing you out the door.

I had a midwife for my first pregnancy. In Canada, they are covered by our health care and I think they are subject to more regulation than American midwives are. At the first appointment, they tell you what their scope of practice is and they review your health history with you and your expectations of your pregnancy and labour.

I'm uk and our primary care is midwives I didn't realise any different until I read on here. I will see an ob at 16 weeks due to my cyst but that's not normal practice over here but that's with referral from the midwife, our midwives are educated to degree level. The 2 I've seen so far have been brilliant, really made us feel comfy.

When i went in for my appointments i always saw the midwife only saw the obgyn regular doctor twice and she had to do my c section but i was really hoping the midwife would of delivered my baby if she would of came natural. I loved the midwife she was so kind even helped me with my postpartum depression but the other doctor was rude and stuck up about everything when i tried talking to her.

I had an OB with my two previous pregnancies , I loved her she was great BUT she also only had 5 minutes for me and she wasn't apart of my actual labor , this time I'm doing midwives in a birthing center , they spend anywhere from 30min -1 1/2hr with you , there is three so I rotate meeting and getting to know them all plus their assistant. They are all so sweet and the place is awesome and beautiful, I'm looking forward to the journey with them !

There's two in my office and I'll be meeting with both of them on separate appointments to decide which one I want to be at my birth and also in case the one I choose isn't able to make it then I'll be familiar with the other one as well. I didn't expect to have a midwife so the nurse I met with at my first appointment suggested I meet both and go from there , I've heard very good things about both of them so I feel like it will all go very well, so far my pregnancy is proving to be rocky with lots of morning sickness and fatigue but it'll all be so worth it in the end :)

I've had a midwife with both my pregnancies. The first was in a hospital and the second was in a birthing center. I loved both of them. :) I suggest at least interviewing one.

Tomorrow's my appointment I have my first ever vaginal exam, and I'm assuming a breast exam but I've had one of those, I don't quite know what else will be happening in hoping she tries to find the heartbeat on a doppler but I'm not going to be upset if she doesn't, my uterus is tilted back I guess and I've already been getting lots of back pain.

I had a midwife and will be doing it again! Absolutely loved it!
