It can take awhile to figure out your trigger foods. Try playing with your night time snack and seeing what works. Most doctors will give you time to figure out diet before they put you on meds.

My first week my numbers were all over the place. Consistently high were my fasting numbers. So when I went in the second week the dietician helped me reorganize the order of my food (have fruits for snacks only etc.) and how to look at my plate and combine enough protein for carbs in my plate. And I got out on insulin for my over night numbers because I was assured I was doing everything right and that part wasn't my fault. I go for a 20 min walk after dinner every night and my snack is a slice of whole wheat toast with 2tbsp of cottage cheese. My third week (I turned 32 weeks) and my numbers started to get a bit crazy. However I knew how to control them the next meal but meals that worked before weren't working anymore and I met with the dietician again and was informed there is a spike in sugars at 32 weeks so this is common. We talked about breaking up carbs (they are insisting you eat 2 servings or 30g of carbs at every meal) so now we are trying splitting them. So far it's working perfectly. Long answer sorry for the novel lol but don't worry you'll get the hang of it. It's definitely all about learning to look at your plate and be able to access what protein will work to cover the carbs. And if it doesn't it's not your fault that placenta can go all wacky on you lol

Hello I got diagnosed at 25 weeks and now am 29 weeks and still trying to control my numbers. I am on insulin 4X a day and they keep upping my doses every couple of days. Good luck!

Gestational diabetes is different than type 1 and type 2 diabetes in that your body is changing almost daily as pregnancy progresses. So your placental hormones can increase insulin resistance through out pregnancy. So something that works for you this week may not work next week and so on. So keep in mind that you may have to change your diet and insulin dosage ever so often. One way that helped me to bring my blood glucose in the range was to have a meal that is high in protein, almost 75% protein. Rest of the 25% I added complex or insoluble carbs such as vegetables high in fibers. I then checked my blood glucose after an hour. If it was not in the range then I upped my insulin (if the dr. Has permitted to do so), and changed the vegetables that I was going to eat for my next meal. You do need to remember that carbs are essential for you and the baby to be healthy so you can't take it out of your diet. My nutritionist recommended 100-150gm of carbs per day. Stay away from soluble carbs such as sweet fruits atleast for a few days until you find out what foods work for you. Once you find the range you can change the ratio of protein to carbs depending on what suits you

This is my second time with God and it took me a week to get where I needed to be, but my fasting numbers are never controlled on their own so I am always on meds for my fasting numbers. It's trial a s error when it comes to food. I could have eggs, coffee with cream and sugar, a whole wheat toast with butter and my numbers will be 123 but if I have everything except the eggs then it will be 110. That's something that I have learned about my breakfast this time around. So I don't eat eggs in the morning like I said trial and error. Good luck I know it's hard but u can do it.
