Has anyone been through the process of filing if the father is in a different state? I know everyone's experience will be different but I'm curious how it has gone for others and any guidance or suggestions! I haven't filed yet, I've been slacking. But a part of me was also just hoping he would do the right thing on his own. He won't be back from deployment until the end of August. I don't think he will fight paying if the paternity test comes back that my son is his (which it will).

Hi, I'm in california and my son's father is in oklahoma in the army. I filed last year in june and didn't start receiving child support until this january. It's a long process so i suggest you start the process asap. Luckily my ex didn't deny Dmitri was his so he just signed paperwork acknowledging he was his.

Valtril, I'm in VA and the dad is in CA. They have to pay back child support from the date filed don't they?

Yes from the date that the child support order went through the basically. My order officially went through in august. What they did with my case was it was $595 ordered for child support and on top of that it was another $100 something that was for the backpay he owed me. So since january i got about $740 monthly. And around May they just took out the almost 2 grand he owed me from backpay all at once from his account. Since he's in the military they'll probably garnish his wages so that the support is taken out automatically from his paycheck.

I don't know how it'll work for you, I'm in KY and my kids dad is in IN, but unless the child was conceived in KY (which he was) then I'd have to file in IN. Since you're in the military it's probably different though.

Ashly, the father is in CA and Caellum was also conceived there. I mean I think I would get more money if I filed in CA but I don't even know how much I care about that anymore.

At this point, it's a matter of principle for me. I didn't get myself pregnant. We're the ones getting up 3x a night and stressing over everything and they're free to live their lives normally. Child support is the least they could do.

Exactly!! I'm going to make sure he pays something but I don't care about going out of my way to get extra. The VA child support calculator said 850 and CA said 1100 and this was without daycare lol. I would be happy with the 850 (plus daycare) though... I'm not really money hungry. I would rather he be involved on his own and buy the baby things himself but that won't happen.

My child support office told me that if the baby's dad didn't respond to our papers, which he won't, then I'd get child support based off of minimum wage. Thanks, because that's so helpful. But oh well... that'll be a few dollars a month he hates paying!

Call The inspector general (202) 514-3435 they handle situations such as this. If you know what base he was last at call to his unit and they will have him contact you within 2-3 business days. Ask for his S1 and tell them you have a child by (insert BD) and are trying to contact him for support. They will handle the rest. I did and he called me back the same day and they made him out his self on child support

yes my child's father is in sc. gave them his girlfriends address (lol) and they send a letter to him to take a paternity test down there. he took one, we got the results back 2 week later that it is in fact his son and maybe about 1-2 weeks after that they sent me some papers wanting me to fill out stuff
