Nervous and scared ??

Hello ladies ? I'm preparing for my 3rd round of IVF and I'm very nervous. I told my dr I have MTHFR (homozygous) and his response was oh there's nothing to worry about. I had my folate and homocysteine levels checked and it was in norm. I bought Best Nest Prenatal Vitamins on Amazon that are appropriate for the mutation and will try to talk to my doctor on Monday when I see him. I don't know how do I convince him that it is a big deal and we should probably follow some protocol because I don't want to have another miscarriage. I'm so scared and frustrated ?

Did he indicate his experience with MTHFR? Has he had a number of previous patients that were successful? Did he do anything to alter their protocols, for example, to avoid birth control? Did he explain why he doesn't think it's a big deal? If not, can you find a way to ask these types of questions to get him to open up? I didn't know anything about this genetic defect before and only took me 5 mins to see the importance of what you're saying.

My RE liked to brush my questions off like he was the expert and I should just trust him, but I demanded answers until I was comfortable. It wasn't always pleasant but I wasn't going to be able to spend this much time, effort and money without feeling sure about things.

I wish you the best of luck!!! ?????

Here's the site I read as reference. http://natural-fertility-info.com/mthfr-gene-folic-acid.html

Maybe bring in some print outs for him to read and highlight the info that pertains to IVF (like avoiding birth control).

He didn't not get into details at all. I told my husband that I'm going to demand answers and explanation to why he doesn't think it's important. We are already going through so much and spending so much money. It's mentally exhausting. I'm going to print a lot of things and shown it to him on Monday what I found and that I want to be treated properly. If not I'm not going to proceed with the clinic and will try to find someone else who will listen to me. Thank you for the link!!!

Studies (some as recent as 2016) have not conclusively determined that MTHFR gene mutation causes miscarriages. And as such there are no recommended protocols to treat women trying to conceive who have MTHFR.

There are three camps. In camp one, you have doctors who firmly believe MTHFR causes miscarriage and treat each case aggressively with heparin injection or aspirin. Or doctors who will apply this treatment to women who are homozygous to the MTHFR gene mutation. These doctors believe MTHFR contribute to elevated homocysteine levels and therefore classify the condition as a type of blooding clotting disorder (subject to debate in the medical community).

In camp two, you have doctors who treat MTHFR cases with higher doses of folic acid, based on the reasoning it lowers homocysteine levels therefore the risk of blood clots.

In camp three, you have doctors who will do nothing.

Given you say you are taking an appropriate folate supplement (is this 6s-5MTHFR?), you probably can still explore aspirin or heparin injections and higher doses of the folate supplement with your doctor. But it may be hard since opinions are divided in the medical profession about managing MTHFR and pregnancy.

Happymumln yes it's I agree with you. Lots of doctors states it's nothing and I should not worry about it at all. After few miscarriages and my sisters not having pregnancy issues and I'm the only one with both mutations I think I want to try everything to make sure I can stay pregnant. It's just so confusing and because of that I feel very lost.

Thank you for all of the info ?
