Feeding Issues
Anyone's lo have a hard time eating solids and table food? My lo is now able to handle stage 2 and the new Gerber "Lil Bits" stage 3 foods consistently without gagging but often refuses to eat unless distracted. If she doesn't see the spoon coming she will eat but if she knows you want her to eat she covers her mouth and fights making it impossible to get any in. And forget about table food. I put a little bit of whatever we are eating on her tray each meal but she won't even touch it. She just turned 1, is well below the growth charts for her age (but following her own curve so ped isn't worried), and my breast milk stash is almost gone so now I'm getting worried about her nutrition. I just don't want her growth to stop or slow when my milk is gone. Advice?

My son is the same way, he refuses the spoon but he will eat table food on his own. Maybe she wants to be independent and do it alone? Have you tried baby lead weaning? I do it with my 25 weeker who is now 1 year actual and 9 months adjusted. He loves to eat food just not by spoon. He has no teeth but will gum it all down.

I'm also having a huge problem with this! My 27 weeker turns one in two weeks and will barely let me get a spoonful of rice cereal in his mouth, let alone at actual food!
I know this post is old, but did you figure anything out, OP? And words of advice for those of us still dealing with it?

For us it has just been time and patience. My lo had a swallow study done and everything looked normal there. So she just has some sensory feeding issues she will have to overcome in time. The speech therapist said that the ability to chew table food and the ability to walk usually go together so not to try real table food until lo can walk. She is already doing better self feeding cheerios, puffs, yogurt melts, saltine crackers, baby cookies, etc. She seems to prefer hard and crunchy table foods rather than soft and squishy (scrambled eggs make her gag so so bad!). She will let me feed her 3rd foods baby food most of the time but there are some days she just will not eat anything but snacks. So she gets one bottle of pediasure a day to make sure she is getting enough nutrients. Hang in there and maybe ask about some OT. Our ped referred us for it but it was so expensive and lo was already showing improvement so we decided to wait it out. Hope this helps!

Seen this old post and had to comment. Preemies have dif tastebuds then a full term baby...alot more open. Maci is now 2yrs old and loves to eat things i wld never think she would. She loves brussel sprouts...lima beans...baked beans...flamming hot cheetos...potato salad...macaroni salad...jalapenos even. She loves scrambled eggs with reds hot sauce...not alot just some...she will hand it to me when im cooking her eggs !! Her mouth has always loved flavor !!
When she was younger we realized this. She was picky with bland foods so we used salt..pepper...garlic..chili powder to get her to eat baby food. Not alot but enough to give it flavor. Her nutritionist gave us the idea and it worked.
