Organizing Large Amt of Frozen Breast Milk

If all your milk is stored in gallon bags, on one side of the freezer have all of the older milk on that side for easy access, and the newer milk on the other side of the freezer.

I read somewhere that milk in the deep freezer is good for a year. I could be wrong though. And maybe try like a system where u rotate as soon as u put in. Like bring old to front new to back so u don't have to do all at once. .... sorry wish I was more help lol.

Breast milk in a deep freeze is good for longer than 4 to 6 months. There should be a chart on the box the bags come in. As for the milk try keeping old on one side and new on the other.

I know most resources say 6-12 months. That's a pretty big gap and depends on your location and how often the freezer is opened. My lactation consultant said its good for up to 6 months in a deep freezer before the nutrients start to break down. Especially bc I live in FL where it's hot and humid and the freezer is opened every other day.

I think I will try doing one side new and one side old. I wish there was an easier way to rotate the bags so I'm not digging in the bottom of the freezer every other month.

Well, I just rearranged the freezer. I moved the 6 oldest bags into the house (bc that's all that would fit in our freezer) and stacked the rest oldest on one side of the deep freezer in the garage to newest on the other. I have room for 8 more bags and it will be maxed out! Hopefully having the 6 oldest inside will keep from having to dig to the bottom at least for 2-3 weeks. Haha

I am with you I am going back to work and have a ton in my freezer trying to organize around food is annoying I lable the outside of my freezer bag with the date and I just shuffle the bags as I put them in I am not using mine yet I go back to work in 2 weeks so then I will.

I started using gift bags with our first. Get the size that fit your storage bags and cut a hole out the the bottom of the bag and use tape to go around to make sure the gift bag won't rip the milk bag. You can then start putting the oldest milk on the bottom and then easily pull it out from the bottom as you need it. For the larger amount we would write on he top of the bag the dates we had in there and then pull the gift bag to our fridge freezer to use. Another way is to use coke case boxes...cut the top off then you can stand up the frozen flat bags...

I use storage bins. They're clear bins you can buy at Target, Wal-mart, etc. Almost like the clear shoe bins but a little bigger. I think they're about 6" wide and probably 18" deep. I freeze the milk in lansinoh bags flat then put them in the bin on their side. Each bin fits about 25 bags or so. Way more organized and efficient than ziploc bags! I can send u a picture if that would help!

But how do you organize the bins in your freezer so that you don't have to dig to the bottom and tree arrange the freezer every few weeks to keep the older bins on top and newer bins on bottom?

I have a stand-up deep freeze so mine is arranged different but I'd imagine if would be the same scenario if you were using ziploc bags. I just keep the one oldest bin and the one newest bin in my main freezer. Then when the freshest bin in full I just add it to the bottom of the deep freeze. I have an app called Milk Maid in which my entire stash is logged so it's easy to see the oldest dates and ounces.
