BF in front of other little ones
BF in front of other little ones
For those who have BF in front of other children, how do you explain it to them? What tips do you have for me? I don't want to hide every time I'm nursing but I also want to be ready to answer the questions.... I have one that is almost 3 and I think she is gonna be the challenge

lol well it's just natural imho, to say "Mama's giving baby ---- milk!" It's just normal. To my kids, it's when they see babies being fed powdered milk that they ask questions. And I tell them that some mamas can't nurse, that's why.

I plan on it. I am not going to hide it but my son is 9. But I don't plan on bidding it in my home from anyone, it's my house and if someone gets embarrassed or uncomfortable they don't have to be around. I am sure my son will leave the room at sometimes but he will get used to it.

I just tell the truth. It's all my kids know. Mommies feed their babies milk from their breasts. It's how God made us.

I breast fed my youngest in front of my other 5 children (ages range between 2yrs-8yrs). I explained that when mummy's have a new baby special milk like formula comes out of her boobies to feed the baby until they don't want any more. Then they have either formula or big person food. But I try to explain everything as truthfully as I can to that age range. I don't like hiding anything from my kids. My oldest has known how babies are made since she was 5 all because she ask how the baby got in my belly.

I agree-totally natural. Just tell them it's how babies get fed. That is 100% the truth! And you can have fun showing pictures of animals nursing their babies too. My daughter nursed until 2.5 years old so she already expects to see it. She's also fascinated and thinks it's SO cute when she sees animals nursing.

Thanks! I guess I'm nervous she will want to do it too bc she wants everything everyone else has. It will be an adjustment for sure.....

Are you planning on pumping at all? You could give her some pumped milk in a cup or just give her milk in a cup. She's old enough to understand that she's not a baby but she can have milk from the fridge if you don't want to let her have a taste. Otherwise your milk is super charged and healthy for her too if you want to give her some.

She is a talker and super smart. She asks the most questions and they are good ones too. I do plan on pumping. She has a certain cup she drinks from and I think I'll just give her some regular milk when I nurse until she gets used to it

My daughter is 4 and keeps asking to feed her brother a bottle. I had to explain to her that I will be breastfeeding and she of course asked me what that was so I explained it the best I could and she doesn't seem to ask anymore.but when she sees people feeding their babies bottles she always says "My brother is going to be breastfed." It's so cute. It's a very natural thing. Just let it happen. :)

I'm planning to nurse most of the time and maybe try a little of bottle for my husband and daughter this time. If my 4.5 year old wants some of my milk to try I am so letting her! Only pumped and in a cup though lol! I'm not sure how to bottle feed at all but I'm willing to try just for the fun sake of everyone else while 97% of the time just nursing.

My eldest knows what breastfeeding is, she's 6. She saw my nursing her brother, who is 4 (they both had their birthday Tuesday last week), and he nursed until around 3y2m, and currently still remembers being breastfed, but he doesn't realise he was still feeding at 3, he thinks he stopped at 2, but remembers it anyhow.
They know this baby will be feeding the same way, but I've also told them that I will express milk from time to time so they can feed him with a bottle (and that way I know he will take one as well when needed) and they both are super excited to do that.
I've probably got a photo somewhere of my daughter giving my son a kiss on the head when he was breastfeeding one time, it's precious. Just explain it, in terms your child will understand, they understand a lot more than you think!

My youngest has already showed interest in my breasts and she hasn't been breastfed for awhile now. I just tell her and her brother that those are for the baby. That's how mommy feeds the baby. That's exactly what I plan on doing with this one. My son didn't do much when his little sister nursed. Like I said I just made it the normal thing to do. Mommy was just feeding the baby!

Yea my kids know it's milk-milk. I have a 6, 4 and 2 year old and they all understand it will be feeding the baby ☺️

This is how babies eat, plain and simple. It's really not that hard to explain to children. They get it very quickly. If you need to you can show pics of animals feeding their babies too, "see all babies can drink milk from their mommas". Even my 10 year old has no issues with it at all. That's the way it should be.

A lot of little ones even like to pull up they're shirts and pretend to nurse their baby dolls just like mama. Good way for her to be included without getting jealous. It will all seem so normal to her, you'll see there's nothing to worry about!

We got my 2 year old a few books about becoming a new sibling & one of them shows the mom BFing. So we've brought it up and talked about it a little. She says mommys milk! She seems to understand, but we'll see!
That ones called The New Baby
