If you're in hospital they mighty have a hospital grade pump you could use?

If you can pump while feeding (it's more difficult than I first thought haha) you'll take advantage of your letdown and mightn't have to pump for so long.

I always used to pump about an hour after a feed, I'd do both breasts for 10-20 mins each.

Just be really careful not to end up with an oversupply! Is there a lactation consultant you could talk to?

I'm at home now, have been since Tuesday.

The midwives that came to visit just said to top him up after a feed, so I don't know how I'm going to manage that as he usually falls asleep on the boob. They just told me to use a syringe to feed it to him, if I don't want to give him a bottle, which I'd rather not.

I could maybe ring the midwife program and see if I can speak to someone there :)

I'd be hesitant to try a bottle just yet, it can cause confusion so good job avoiding that if you can.

I didn't start expressing until my lo was 8 weeks old, so my supply had established.

Are you planning on having a freezer stash at all?

You can also hire breast pumps from any hospital, which is what I did my dd had jaundice as well.

I wasn't planning on it, it's only suppose to be for the next few days until his colour is back to norm.

He's jaundice level is way below the treatment line, he's alert, pooping like normal and he only lost 130 grams after birth (weighed today) so he's doing great! It's just the colour they want to flush out.

I managed to hand express 10ml today, which was good, but doing that after every feed will be a nightmare lol.

I expressed 30 min before or after it seemed to help with the jaundice

Was also going to say to be careful with expressing but if it's going well that's great. I can't express at all, at any stage, or it stuffs BFing completely for me.

Two of my kids were born with jaundice, we were told by our family doctor (who I trust with my life!) to just boob, boob, boob and to sit them near the window or outside with some sunlight just for a few minutes a couple of times a day. Vitamin D works wonders for jaundice and I think it definitely worked :)

My daughter had jaundice, I just had her on the boob a lot! And she slept by the window to get the sunlight. It went away pretty quick and she also put on 500 grams in a day due to so much booby milk! ?

That first week flies! Try in the morning when they are nice and full and sore, I used to get about 90ml out of one boob and about 40 from the other. And about an hour before the first feed preferably :)

My baby had jaundice. I was nursing every 2 hours and pumped about 30 min after a feed. I tried to get bub to have both breasts if possible. I used an electric double pump which makes it so much easier.
