I would wait until you find out the gender. I also haven't announced it on Facebook even though I want to. I figured once I find out the sex I will announce it. But I understand how you feel but it's still worth the wait. Just talk to your partner and express to him it will mean a lot for him to tell him family as soon as possible. Don't announce it on social media yet until he tells them unless you want to risk them knowing. Maybe tell him that you are ready to tell everyone and see if that persuades him to spill the beans to his family. On social media word travels fast trust me. That's why I don't plan on announcing until the babies are born. Or maybe he will tell them when you find out the sex of the baby.

No offense, but he needs to grow a pair. It's his baby as well and he needs to man up and tell it how it is. I couldn't respect a guy who hid our child from his family. Regardless of his upbringing. If he's adult enough to have a baby with you then he should be adult enough to tell his family.
