Compromising !? How much compromise have you had to make with your partner when it comes to the future?

It's really difficult when someone won't budge. Or both people won't budge. Where you live is a huge thing which requires compromise on both sides. It's a tricky situation. Maybe look at the cost of agistment vs the extra costs associated with living on acreage. The agistment might not be such a bad deal. Plus there are many things to consider regarding work, school for the kids etc. I think you're probably borrowing trouble if you're not yet ready to buy. I would just say how you feel and probably leave it at that until you're closer to buying. Your / his priorities will likely change significantly once bub arrives. ?

I don't really have any advise but if you had horses when he met you where did he think you wanted to live? It's just strange because he doesn't want to live like that he should have said something to you a long time ago. Not sure what advise to give but neither of you can flat out say no I'm not doing that end of discussion you both need to be open to discussion so you can work out a middle ground. We don't live too far from the city (although traffic is crazy peak hour) but you can buy acre land out my way, people are big about their horses in camden

I think if you're not even close to buying a house yet then it's a non issue at this point. If and when you are ready to look at that part of your future you will work it out. Don't stress over things that aren't even on the cards yet.

Can you look at properties that are within 40mins to the main part of Newcastle? So you are still not far away if he wants a night out? Or even south of Sydney have pretty affordable properties? Sounds like you have a bit of time to try and change his mind.

Funny, i have horses too and had to go feed on my own this morning with the baby. My horses are on agistment too... maybe once he sees how difficult it is to feed /work /look after the horses with a baby on agistment he might compromise a little more?
I don't know how many horses you have or what the law is in Sydney but here its 1acre per horse, so maybe you can find the bare minimum as close to the city as you can when the time comes?

Having acreage is hardly the same as living on a farm... I would kill for acreage! I grew up in Sydney and dh grew up in the country and I'm the one who wants the acreage and he's the one who doesn't mind city/suburban housing.
Thing is for you, it's about more than just a place to live. If it means the difference between keeping your horses or not then I don't think he's being all that fair since he knew you had them from the start. Unless it's literally sending you broke and there is no alternative but to no longer keep them, they're pets! You don't make people give up their pets! ?
There are quite a few locations that you can be relatively close to the city/suburbia while still on acreage. Places in nsw like Windsor, Mulgoa, Central Coast area, etc. The South Coast is beautiful.
Personally when I win the lottery i'm buying a property in Oxford Falls or Terry Hills and having the best of all worlds- city, beach, and acreage :) ☺️ DH knows this ?

What are you living in at the moment?
My oh was happy to live in his tiny two bed house with no yard until we had two kids trying to fit in it. We now live on 17acres. No horses but goats and chooks. So he might change his mind when his kids start missing out on things he had as a kid. Like the swing set in the back yard and tree house etc. or pets that you can keep in the city.
I can understand why he doesn't want the work of looking after a large property it does keep you busy.
