My son has the flu. He also has asthma. He had a headache at first but was still playing and acting his normal self. He now has a fever that I have to stay on top of with rotating medicine. More congestion than anything, sneezing, a cough here and there. He still has a tone of energy. I gave him a breathing treatment last and he will probably need another one soon. He is taking tamiflu.

I would probably call your child’s pediatrician and see what route they want you to take. I wouldn’t wait though. They might want to start tamiflu. And like you said, when they have asthma something so small can turn fast. Hope she feels better soon.

He is 4. The fever hit out of no where. It’s been hard to get to break but it’s gone down some. I just got off the phone with one of his drs. He told me that if his fever goes down some for just a few hours, we are doing good. Keep pushing fluids because that helps too and he told me I could give him up to 10 mls of medicine if needed if the fever isn’t breaking at all. He said once it stops breaking bring him in. He told me not to go to the regular er, bring him into the children’s hospital because the regular er doesn’t know how to properly deal with them.

If your LO starts a fever out of nowhere get in for a flu test ASAP. I was just told this AM that Tamiflu loses its effectiveness after 48hrs of flu symptoms and the risks a side effects aren’t worth administering it after that point.

Everyone in our family was hit with the flu this year including my 2.5 year old. He had diarrhea, low grade fever, runny nose and he was miserable. Thankfully no vomiting! He actually got over it quicker than the rest of us thank goodness!

Depends on the type. DD had both A and B. Type A was MUCH worse on our family. Our DS had A and it was really rough on him (he’s almost 5).

DD caught type B on Monday and the first day was a bit hard. She had a slight fever, headache and respiratory issues (she also has asthma) but she started tamiflu on Monday and honestly Tues-Thurs she was fine. She stayed home from school (she’s 6) but no fever after Monday. Just some minor wheezing.

I was so scared of this flu season, so for the first time ever, we all got our flu shot. To no avail, because we all got the flu. My 3 year old is still not over it. Has had a fever for 5 days straight. Took him to urgent care and they said if he continues with fever for 2 more days to bring him back in. Was told lots of rest and keep him hydrated.

For those giving your kids Tamiflu, please be aware of the risks. There is an FDA warning of pediatric psychotic episodes. I think it’s even been banned in Japan bc of suicide in children. There was just a 6 or 7 year old girl in Indiana this past week who tried jumping out of her window while on it. Although in some cases the benefits outweigh the risks, just please be aware. I had no clue about these risks until I did some research on it this week. I actually bought it and chose not to give it to my boys. Also keep in mind it only shortens the length of time of the flu by a day at most.

Dd just started last night around midnight with symptoms. Not sure yet if it's the flu(honestly i don't really know the difference others than severity?). Low grade fevers of and on. Congestion, runny nose, occasional coughing, sneezing.

She's 17mo. Been active party of the day but mostly wants to be held. She ate a good meal at least once today but didn't take as much fluids as I'd like. We've been doing Tylenol and just started a decongestant about 2 hours after the Tylenol.

I’ve called the nurse like. In a mater of minutes she started chills fever and headache with runny nose and sore throat. How long do I wait? Their on call dr isn’t answering so I’m waiting for the nurse line. Do I take her in? My anxiety is through the roof.

My dd got it. And it was completely and utterly horrifying. Although she was only 4 months, which probably made it worse, but she went from just fine, to high fever and completely lifeless. Could lift her arms, or head. I have never been so scared. My ds has pneumonia and bronchitis at the same time, at 6 months old and it wasn’t near as bad as this. I literally slept 2 mins in 3 days because I was afraid she would stop breathing or seize from the fever. Luckily one dose of tamiflu and she was fine! Back to her normal self.

My two kids had it about a week and a half ago. I did have to take them both to the er but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be.

My youngest (14 months) was having retractions, wheezing and fast breathing. They just did a chest X-ray which showed bronchiolitis and sent us home with albuterol and nebulizer. He was better the next day.

My 2 year old was just wheezing but I took him to be checked just in case. His X-ray was clear but they couldn’t get his fever to go down. It almost went up to 104 after he already had Motrin. They had to give him a suppository of Tylenol since he threw up the medicine they gave him by mouth. They also gave him a dose of steroids and a breathing treatment to help with the wheezing.

This all happened on day two of the symptoms. By day three, the fever was gone for both kids and they were feeling much better. They were also on tamiflu.

My kids got it. My 3 year old didn’t get as sick as my two year old but they were both feverish for about 4-5 days and had a cough and overall discomfort. We did end up going to the doctor day 4 of fever with my 24month old just because she’s still pretty little and was up coughing all night we wanted to make sure there weren’t any secondary infections but nope, just the flu and she started getting better the day after we went. I think there is always a large flu hype every year...

I actually got it this year about a month & a half ago. A few days after I got it, I noticed lethargy in both of my girls & little red cheeks & pale faces. I immediately started them on medicine right then & there. Nipped whatever the hell that funk was right in the bud. Thank goodness because my flu turned to pneumonia later that week

When dd got it last year it wasnt bad at all a fever and sleep for a day or so.. This year she got it and it was really bad I even thought about taking her to urgent care. She got dehydrated and her fever was super high and she had body aches and headaches. It lasted a week..

I took her in. She tested negative for flu. Dr said there are a lot of viruses looking exactly like the flu.

I would call and see what your pediatrician says since she has asthma. My son has the flu now. He has a slight cough Thursday but nothing else. Friday morning his nose was running and he was sneezing but no fever or anything until suddenly Friday night he started acting off and got a fever. I knew he had been exposed to the flu earlier in the week and I panicked because I'm pregnant and know how bad the flu can be for someone pregnant as well as toddlers (he's 2 1/2). My husband and sister in law took him to children's urgent care and they said that tamaflu does have a lot of side effects and asked if we wanted to give it to him or not. They had us alternating that, Motrin and Tylenol every 4 hours while he is awake. My husband also got tamaflu for me as a preventative since I am pregnant. He felt bad Friday night, slept all night and woke up Saturday feeling completely fine and running and jumping on the couch and playing with all his toys. He did get a fever for about 3 hours yesterday evening between 5-8 and took a nap, but woke up fine again. He hasn't had a fever yet all day today and his nose hasn't ran at all the last 2 days. So he hasn't had it bad at all. I have been giving him garlic several times a day as an immune booster and he has been closely exposed 2 other times in those last 3 weeks. I think the garlic definitely helped him not have it as bad. I told my husband though that since the doctor told us the side effects can be bad and that it only shortens symptoms by one day and that all you can really do is give them those 3 things to help some of the symptoms and let it run its course that next time I probably wouldn't give it to him or take it myself if I'm not pregnant. I would be more concerned with her having asthma though. And as far as how everyone's symptoms are, I know 7 people right now with the flu, 3 of them were constantly throwing up, not able to keep anything down and fighting fever 3-4 days, one threw up one day and didn't run much fever and felt better the next day more like a stomach virus, one had really rough traditional flu with aches, chills, cough, chest congestion, rough sounding voice and fever several days. The other one was very similar to my so , but had fever 3 days and during that time didn't want to eat or drink anything. My son hasn't slowed down at all eating or drinking thankfully! The doctor that saw my son said it was hitting a lot of people differently and ranging from very mild symptoms to very rough major symptoms. It is definitely very bad and an epidemic, but I think as with a most things that the media has it slightly exaggerated.
