Dd and mil were playing with dds makeup. The kid type. Ds (2.5) wanted to paint his nails blue because blue is his favorite color. Mil got a napkin and immediately wiped it off. Ds got very upset and i told mil it was fine he was just playing and it’s his favorite color and that either way it’s the type that falls off with water. Mil did not like it at all. She kept telling ds you’re a boy not a girl. And I admit before kids I would say the same but he’s a kid, I now understand it’s a learning thing and even if he was gay whatever. Mil brother is gay. I dont know if that’s why she acts like that. By she made such a big deal it really bugged me. I dont know maybe I’m wrong, maybe I’ll get crap. But oh well.

I don’t see why people can be so set in their ways they would blatantly upset someone they care about. ? But those people exist.
I’d just repaint them and if she tries to wipe it off again, set her straight.

I would’ve put my foot down with this one. I would have told her if she wipes it off again and makes anymore comments to my child, she’d be asked to leave. Then I’d repaint ds’s nails. He has no idea that nail polish is typically for girls. He’s just trying to be colorful.

Exactly. I told her let him paint his nails. It’s fine. She didn’t like it and I got him and let him paint them. But it makes me so upset he’s a kid.

I hate it so much when I hear something like that! I let my son paint his nails (he only wants 1 finger when he does lol), play with baby dolls, play with makeup brushes(nothing on them)
I do not do "girl things" because it's expected of me. Society has created these gender roles and it's really annoying that people can be so close minded

My son wants his nails painted when his sister gets hers done. He’ll pick different colors based on what “vehicle” he is.
Currently he has green toenails because he’s a tractor.....

My oldest nephew when he was about 4, loved having his toenails painted. My sister would paint little baseballs or footballs on his big toe and the rest of his toes would be green because that was his favorite color. It definitely wasn't a big deal.

You should tell her next time that pink used to be considered a boy’s color and up until 5 they also used to wear dresses. Ugh I hate how people act like that with kid’s.
