Tonsillectomy in 2 year old
Ds had a drs viste today because he literally chokes in his sleep non stop. He turned purple yesterday durning his nap and I had to help him breath. It's only during his chocking episodes that this happens. It's like a gagging choking sound. The dr checked his lungs and throat. His lungs were perfectly clear. She said his tonsils were abnormally large and needed to be taken out immediately. She wants them out within the next few days. We have a visit with the ent tomorrow. What is his recovery time? Like I said he's two, will he have to stay over night? Or will he be able to just go home the same day?

He should not have to stay over night. It's usually a go in, have surgery, a brief recovery to make sure he will take fluids, and go home.
My daughter took about 10 days to heal fully from tonsils and adenoids being removed.
I was a nervous wreck about it, but it went so fast and smoothly.
ETA this was a month after her third birthday. We tried other attempts at reducing swelling in her tonsils to no avail. By the time we saw the paediatric ENT they said her tonsils were a level 4 and needed to come out ASAP

My youngest was just shy of two when his came out because of age he stayed overnight. But he was up and playing and eating and being goofy the next day. He took his pain meds for about a week and was fine. The death smelling breath took about 2 weeks to fully go away

@iwanna omg, yes, that was probably worse than how fussy my daughter was. ?

Hey does it smell so bad? He has hard time eating because he starts to choke. The dr said t was because of the tonsils.

After surgery he will have stinky breath. Even with brushing teeth it won't go away.
My daughter started choking on food. That's when they decided it was serious enough. Her struggling to sleep and breathe in her sleep wasn't enough for the first ENT we saw.
ETA I would tell my daughter not to get in my face since her breath was so bad lol

My son had to stay overnight. We had a sleep study, and his tonsils and adenoids were causing severe apnea. He stopped breathing an average of 19 times an hour. They kept him to ensure he was breathing better, it's not usually overnight. The next two days were very hard on him, after that he was pretty much back to normal. And yes, his breath was horrendous lol, I couldn't stand it.
