Heimlich on 6mo
I was cleaning dds nose who has a cold and ds was next to us on the floor. I heard him choking so I picked him up and realized saw he was choking and trying to breath but couldn't. I did the Heimlich on him and whatever it was came up then he swallowed it again. The only thing I can think it could have been was a piece of dog food. I sweep the floor everyday and even pass the vacuum over it but I don't know what it could have been. Do I just keep an eye in him? Or what do I do? He's fine playing with his toys.

I'd take him in to make sure it was something digestible. If you're 100% sure it was dog food and not a toy then just watch him closley. My dd choked on a tiny piece of apple and i had to do the same. ?

My daughter has swallowed pennies and even a small hair tie (children's size). I called her pediatrician both times. As long as they are breathing and doing ok you should be fine. Just monitor their stools for a few days to make sure it's been passed or digested.

Heimlich maneuver should never be used on babies. For future reference that was very dangerous and you could have hurt your baby accidentally. You want to flip the baby over and do back blows. I'm sure baby is fine but I would take them in just to make sure baby's not hurt.

Oh man now I feel stupid... Thank you ladies I will remember that. Although I hope it never happens again. I did Pat his back hard but mostly did the chest thrust thing. I will call his dr right now.

Chest compressions and flip on tummy and hit him on the back. Its okay momma, you didn't know. Glad he's okay.

You can do a hell of a lot more damage doing the heimlech than good. Look up how to help him next time.

That move isn't used anymore and I definitely wouldn't do it on a baby. You do a throat check and finger sweep. Followed by back blows

Something you mind wanna look into is taking an infant first aid class. A lot of hospital offer it. It's a good way to stay up to date on emergency aid for your little one. I'm glad you got baby breathing again.

Don't feel stupid - it's something that you may never use and in the moment, you still may have done the same thing!
Take it as a learning experience and see about infant cpr! It's worth knowing :)
You NEVER know how you'll react until you're in the situation. Baby can be checked out and hopefully all is good!
