Adam ruins everything
There was an awesome segment in one of the episodes of Adam ruins everything about breastfeeding vs. Formula. It's on YouTube for those of you interested and is only about 5 minutes long. Here's a link.

Fed is best. I'm still breastfeeding exclusively, but I know pretty soon will be time for a bottle. I need to go a few places and leave him with family members for longer than he'd go between feedings, and I'm ok with that . He will use frozen breastmilk and if I need to transition to formula, so be it. I'm primarily avoiding it for financial reasons. I can't afford how much formula would be if he was exclusively on formula.
My mom wasn't able to make much milk and I had an awesome immune system and was in honors classes in school , so I don't believe that formula means your kid is doomed. Both methods of feeding have pros and cons . I know my husband is itching to feed the baby lol. I keep making him wait .

This is a load of crap. Fed is best and there should be no shame in formula feeding but there are studies proving that breastmilk is tailored to baby's needs and filled with antibodies. So.. Formula and breastmilk are not the same. Down playing breastfeeding to make formula feeding moms feel better is ridiculous. Nobody should feel bad about feeding their child or how they choose to do so in the first place. Inaccurate information shouldn't be spread just to save someone's feelings.

I didn't hear any inaccurate information and I've spent hours and hours researching breastfeeding, my whole topic for the semester in my advanced research writing college class was on breastfeeding. And I do believe breast milk is better since it is specifically designed for a human baby, but I still don't see how this video had wrong information?

It claims they have the same nutrients, they do not.

The same basic nutrients that an infant needs, yes they both have them. Breast milk just has much more. I don't remember the numbers off the top of my head. My take from the video was they meant the nutrients an infant needs to thrive and grow.

"Immune support" and live acting antibodies are nowhere near the same. Yes, they both offer necessary minerals and vitamins needed to thrive. But I took the video as them trying to say formula and breastmilk are equal and they are not. Formula provides what is needed to thrive but breastmilk offers so much more. As far as no evidence towards IQ and all that, it's mostly true. I know formula fed babies that are so much smarter. Breastfed babies do tend to heal faster from sickness though due to it being a living substance with antibodies.

Honestly my older 2 were formula fed. 1 was a big baby and 2 was always small. My 2 month old ive pumped and just starting to switch to formula only and he is big like my 1st child. (Mind you all boys so gender has no effect). My nephew was EBF and he was just like my second. Always small. He also got sick like a normal baby. No difference between my kids or my nephew. So, as breastfeeding may be what's natural, it isn't always easy. It isn't for everyone that's for sure. Believe me i tried so hard with my last here and it kills me giving up. Because my body won't produce enough and I've tried over and over to make it work. So yes, the video makes me feel better about switching as my emotions giving up for the last time are hard. But my baby is being fed and that's all that matters.

Any studies where they have found that babies have a higher IQ on breast milk is because the mothers had a higher IQ and they were better off socioeconomically. So I do not think breast milk effects IQ at all. As far as immune support and getting sick less, that's most likely true but to be most accurate they need to do a study on siblings where one has been breastfed and one has not because genetics and living conditions can effect health as well. I think I remember there was a study conducted on siblings but I will need to find it. I'm really big on scientific studies and doing my research.
But to reiterate, breast milk is the best as it is designed specifically for babies. But formula is great and if videos like this can make mommies feel better when they can't breastfeed then so be it. I don't think there was any false information presented. I felt guilty about stopping at 6.5 weeks but he could never latch well and pumping was making me go insane and I wasn't bonding as well with my baby. As soon as I stopped it was like I was a whole new person and I have a 10x better bond with my baby. It's like I fell in love with him all over again. So it was right for me in this case but I hope I can breastfeed my future children! Nothing with this baby went as planned so I'm learning how to be flexible and go with it.
