It's just to help the camera focus to show clearer lines, without the ring it can get really blurry if you try get a close up. Of course it doesn't have to be a ring but that's the main go to.
That makes sense . I figured it was either a focus thing or just showing that you were married and trying, but then I saw a Keychain ring and thought....hmmm...
