Scared of the dark

Ladies I need some advice. My 3 year old is terrified of the dark and refuses to sleep in his room at night. He's fine playing in there and will nap during the day but once night falls he freaks out hard, like almost hyperventilates. That happens whether I'm in the room or not. A regular night light isn't cutting it. Leaving the hall light on doesn't work. I need a safe light that he can sleep with. Does anything like that exist?

We hung a strand of Christmas lights in my sons room. He absolutely loves it!

My 4 year son was the same so this is what I did.

I went to the dollar store and got automatic night lights. One is just a basic one that automatically comes on when it's dark. The other also automatically comes on in the dark and it projects fish onto the ceiling. You can find others at Wal-Mart that are ninjat turtle or Spider-Man or whatever.

I also told him that his stuffed animals (he has a Raphael ninja turtle and a couple others he sleeps with as well as a huge Batman figurine beside his bed) came to life and protected him while he slept because they were his best friends. He said "mommy, Raphael isn't real, he can't come to life." So the next day we watched all the Toy Story movies. Haha. He totally bought it. The next night when I put him to bed with his "Magic Night lights" I kissed him good night and told him again that Raphael would protect him from all the monsters and bad dreams.

He loved it. He was so excited that to learn that his favorite stuffed ninja turtle protected him. This was 3 months ago and we haven't had a single issue since. And he still believes it.

My son did that and we talked to him. We told him the light had to go off just like the sun goes down. That his room is safe because mommy and daddy make sure it's safe for him.

Also I'm pretty sure there are light up pillows/stuffed animals that get light then you squeeze them. An "as seen on tv" product

They have one that are animals that light up and project stars on the ceiling. They are pretty bright. DD has a Winnie the pooh one. It turns off after about an hr.

I agree with the fish tanks. My kids have two of them. Or get a night light that projects a picture on the wall. My kids also have a Nemo one of those. Look on amazon. They have hundreds. Just pick a theme.

We use fish tanks as a kind of night light lol gives them light, and something to look at if they wake up scared

Thanks ladies. Some cool ideas. I have to break this habit but it's so hard seeing him so upset. I'm gonna look into the salt lamp ?

We use a Himalayan salt lamp as a night light.

Get yourself one while you're at it :)

We hung Christmas lights around my girls bed.

The military uses red lights because it illuminates a room without effecting the ability to sleep and go into deep sleep.

I tried it and put it on a timer that would turn off around midnight. My son switched to a regular nightlight after a few weeks.

We hung Christmas lights in our 2 year olds room because she loves them. It helps way more than the traditional night light we tried

My son used one of these when he first moved to a toddler bed in our new house. It seemed to help him, the batteries didn't last long though. ссылка Or what about a light projector, they are more interesting to watch than a regular plug in light.
