As if it hasn't sucked enough going back to work after getting to be home for 7 weeks with my babies on maternity leave, now things have gotten worse. I'm breastfeeding DS2 and have to pump on both breaks and during my lunch. I'm happy to make the sacrifice for my baby boy, but I wish I at least had a place I could do it other than the bathroom or my car. It's been working well enough. However, starting on Sunday everyone is required to work 45 hour weeks, each workday will become 9 hours. This presents a problem for me and my schedule. And on top of that they are going to start scheduling breaks and lunches, and they said they will be at different times each day for each person.

I would look at the state laws. In NC they not only HAVE to give you somewhere to pump other than the bathroom but they have to give you breaks to pump as well.

I want to say they federally mandated something but I'm not quite sure...
I know in my state, if they have over 15 employees, even in different states, not only are they required to allow you to pump every 3 hours but they must provide an adequate room other than a restroom for you to pump in. It's also illegal for them to question your pumping or ask questions regarding it.
It's worth checking into when all it is is a quick Google search.
Once you find out, if they try and fight you on it if your state has laws pertaining to lactation, print them out and present them to your employers. That way if they have an issue, they can take it to the state.

Exactly what pp said. Look up your laws because they are supposed to allow you a place to pump privately other than an unsanitary bathroom and for supply reasons you are supposed to be allowed to pump when you need to, not when they dictate it. It's not lIke you're asking for breaks for fun or for unnecessary reasons, you are asking for necessary breaks to continue to be able to nourish your child.

I agree with everyone else, there are alot of laws in place nowadays to preserve a mother's right to continue bfing and pumping and whatnot in the workplace. I bet there is something you can refer to when speaking to them about your needs.

Thanks ladies. I've done some research and it seems like the ACA should take over and require my employer to provide me time and a place to pump. My state (WV) has no laws requiring anything of employers. At least none I could find.
I plan to fight this but it's going to be an uphill battle. I spoke with HR about it before I even returned to work and was told they did not legally have to provide anything for me.
I won't lie, I'm not too savvy when it comes to laws and to understanding them. If any of you ladies have any advice or a better grasp of how it all works, I'm all ears!
