Umbilical cord question
As a third time mom I feel silly asking but I didn't have this issue with my first two. Yesterday morning I found that Freddy's umbilical cord had fallen off at 12 days old. As I examined him, I noticed it seemed as if there was a piece of it still in his belly button that was not yet dried out. I wasn't too concerned about it and figured it would dry up and fall out as well.

I would say if it's not actively bleeding and there isn't any drainage or smell it's probably fine. But this is something I'd probably call about as well. Bumping in case anyone else knows. Do you have a nurse line you could call?

I feel like I remember my son having some bleeding/discharge after his cord fell off, as long as it doesn't look infected I wouldn't be too worried. Don't do a bath until it's closed up though, try to keep it dry and clean

Unfortunately no nurse line-at least not yet. I absolutely adore my pediatrician and she is moving her practice to be a part of the hospital I deliver at which has so much more to offer than her current practice. But that's not until next month. He doesn't seem bothered by it but I'm going to give her a call in the morning for sure just to be certain.
