What do you ladies think? :(

What do you ladies think? :(

So I'm currently 14 weeks pregnant and I have an 8 month old son. I was offered a really good job about a month ago and I accepted it. It starts on the 15th of this month. I've been a stay at home mom since the birth of my son. My sister has always been the biggest influence on my life and my best friend since we were children. I'm absolutely heartbroken at what just happened between us. She called me a bad mother for wanting to go back to work, saying I was an idiot for letting a stranger raise my child, and then she made some comment about how pregnant women don't need to be working anyway. She doesn't have any children and doesn't want any. That's her choice and I've always respected that. I will, of course, miss my son terribly while I'm away from him, but I feel it's the best thing for us. We are struggling so bad financially that I'm overly stressed with partial bill payments and lack of money for grocery shopping. I cannot get government assistance unless I lie about the way things are, and I absolutely refuse to do that, though my sister says I should. My living arrangement is unusual, and I can understand her worrying about that, but that's another matter completely. I know many, many mothers that work, and many pregnant women that work. I, myself, worked my entire first pregnancy, up until the day I was admitted to the hospital (early and unexpectedly). What are your ladies' take on me wanting to return to work? Am I being stupid to do so with a baby and another on the way?

If you want to work and/or need the money, then don't let her get you down.

well you need the money , its not just going to land in your pockets & you're right , PLENTY of pregnant women / mothers WORK to make it through & be able to provide for themselves & children , especially . i feel like being that she isn't a mom , she cant quite understand that . i'll be 29 weeks & just started a new job myself In which i am now working 2 jobs to 'get right' . All in good time you'll have saved money, be in a better place financially & you'll be on maternity leave + home with BOTH of your kids. don't let her make you feel bad , besides I'm sure if you didn't feel whomever will be watching your son were trustworthy enough that he wouldn't be going lol

You do what is necessary for your family/household.

I worked until the day I have birth to my first and I'm hoping to be able to do the same with my second.

Good luck to you

You are not being stupid, you are providing for your family. I worked up until they day I went into labor with my first pregnancy and will do the same with this one.

Not everyone can afford the luxury of staying home while pregnant. It's tough out there, financially speaking.

Thanks ladies! I'm feeling a lot better about my decision and getting excited to start back to work. I do trust who will be watching my son, and I took my time finding and getting to know who will be looking after him. And the cost is very reasonable compared to the day cares in my area, so that I won't be paying almost as much as I make for child care!

You do what a good mom does. You provide for your child. And you start a new career. You gain financial independence and that is amazing. Congrats on your new job!
