Why is it so hard to get support?

Why is it so hard to get support?

I have a lot of negative things going on in my life. My relationship has fallen apart, and unfortunately for the time being I have no choice but to live with my ex. Our car broke down so we have no transportation at all. My sister tries to help me out between her working and moving. I have my first doctor's appointment next Wednesday and now I'm going to have to cancel it. My sister is on vacation that week and said she would take me but now says she won't because I haven't moved out yet. She doesn't understand that things like that take time and planning, and she's convinced I'm pretending things are fine. She refuses to listen or believe anything I tell her. I thought support meant that people supported you no matter what, not only when you did everything they think you should do. The doctor I have to see is about 20 minutes north of where I live and there isn't another way for me to get there. It's so hurtful because I don't know what to do and my own sister is so stubborn she's turned her back on me. :(

I'm so sorry to hear your going through this. Things can fall apart a lot on our lives but u have to remain focus on the positive, even a little oz of positive can turn things around. I hope things get better for you.

Thank you. I tried telling my sister I need positivity from her but all I'm getting from everyone is scolded and treated like a child. Not a day goes by without either her or my father telling me I'm stupid and everything is my fault. I have an 8 month old son already and I am doing what's best for both him and myself. Just no one wants to listen to any of my reasons for doing what I'm doing. It's so frustrating and hurtful.

I think there's probably more to the story. But support does not always mean blindly agreeing to someone's choices and saying it's right. It also means loving someone enough to tell them to pull their heads out of the dark and make changes. If you wanted to move badly enough I'm sure there are options (welfare, family, friends, low-income housing). Maybe your sister and father are worried about things that were left out if the story and want you to be in a safer/healthier place ... I know with my sister I let her make her own choices and only give opinions / set serious boundaries when she's making unsafe / unhealthy choices.
