Any Stories of Vaginal Birth After Myomectomy?
Is a myomectomy an automatic criteria for C-section delivery? Anyone have a laparoscopic or abdominal myomectomy and try successfully or unsuccessfully to deliver vaginally?
@zombiekitten, I think getting the report is a good idea. I'm just curious how is a myomectomy different from a c-section? It's cutting into the uterus to get mass versus baby. VBACs are possible, so why not VBAM?
@cso, that's what I read online too. So the report might shed some more light on it.
I was told it all depended on if they had to cut into the uterus vs removing from the surface. When I had mine, the fibroids were on the surface so I wasn't automatically disqualified from a vbac this time around. But, if they have to cut into the uterus there's a higher chance of uterine rupture in a vaginal birth. (I'm not a dr or in the medical field, this is just what my dr told me)
I work in OB and I've never heard of vaginal
delivery after myomectomy. I'd probably get the operative report from the surgery and review it with your OB. Maybe if it was very small areas or only a few, they might consider vaginal delivery. I wouldn't hold out much hope, though. A compromised uterus can rupture in labor, and the ultimate goal is to safely deliver your baby.
I've had two myomectomies and I am having a planned c section.
