Delayed cord clamping? Any experiences with it or any info would be appreciated? don't comment if…

I have done it with my last 3 babies and will be doing it again with our new addition. I had 2 babies before we knew about delayed clamping so they didnt get it. The difference is amazing! The babies that got delayed had much better coloring (hence the extra blood they get from the cord). If you have any specific questions let me know.

How long did you have them wait? I don't know if my doctor does this yet but I'm going to ask!

They usually wait until it's stopped pulsing before cutting it , this is my first and I plan on doing it :) the only thing I can't find info on is if helps prevent jaundice?

My doctor just went ahead and did it. I meant to ask but i was so scatter brained this pregnancy i kept forgetting to bring it up! So im super happy she just did it anyways

Yes till it stops pulsating usually 2-5 min. You can see the coloring in the cord go white too.

Just make it a part of your birth plan and they will do it for you. It does help prevent jaundice and is just healthier for baby. Typically they wait till the cord stops pulsating.

My midwives did/do it automatically - delayed for a few minutes until it stopped pulsing. Baby was on me the whole time. My first kid had mild jaundice (which could be totally unrelated or *might* have been a side effect) - he was fine after 8 hours in the lights. My second kid was totally fine. Totally recommend it, planning on doing it with this baby.

Wish I did it with my first, so I could save his cord blood :( but I never knew it was an option, they never asked me. Speak to a nurse when you're at the hospital and I'm sure they'll follow through

@j0laz - Cord banking is different. Delayed clamping is when the blood goes to baby at birth. With cord banking, you have to sign up with a company beforehand and pay ongoing for it to be stored. Baby doesn't get any cord blood upfront, only if you need it.

@aep yes I'm aware lol, where I am they do it at the hospital. We can do it through our health plan ? I'm just so upset I wasn't able to do it with my first ?

We are doing cord clamping this time. I didn't know about it with my first two. My hospital also does skin to skin for the first hour (as long as know medical complications) so we will do both as long as the cord is long enough.

It's done as standard practice where I live.

My doctor has never mentioned anything about it so I'm really not sure if it's done here or not. I'll find out next week since I had my appointment today but didn't remember to ask! Thank you all?

I really want to do it but I don't know if they can with c-sections or not. I'm definitely going to ask my doctor at my appointment tomorrow.
