So long without your child
So long without your child
I have a friend that just recently had her baby in May. And it makes me wonder sometimes how she goes so long without seeing her child. Almost from the beginning she takes her to a baby sitter or leaves her with her dad for a couple days. Idk if it's just me but I would be going crazy. My baby isn't even here yet but I'm not gonna want to be away from her especially for so long at a time. And especially when it's this soon after she was born. She's not even 2 months old yet. Sorry for the long post just been bugging me and wondering if anyone else would be able to do this or has been able to?

I was not away from either child for a long time. Eventually I left them with my husband or mom for short periods. I had my first overnight away from #1 when #2 was born and my first overnight away from #2 last month, and each was about 2.5 years old. I agree with you, it's tough to imagine.
I could see a mom doing this out of necessity, even if it was tough for her - for example, if she had to go back to work. Also, although I love my kids so much, being a mom is overwhelming and HARD. Sometimes you need a break (even if you can't actually take it). And there are things like postpartum depression that make it really tough to care for your child. It's difficult to know what another mom is going through.

I know it'll be tough. But she's still young as am I, I'll either be 19 or 20 when my baby comes depending on when she arrives lol. And she's only 19. She likes to go out with friends a lot and leaves the baby with baby sitters often. She doesn't work either. Idk I just feel like it would be way too hard for me to do that. I could understand the occasional break but to do it so often idk how she can go so long without seeing her baby! But like you said every mom is different. Just didn't know if it was common for moms to be able to do that and not worry or miss them really

I think it has a lot to do with mommy instincts and maturity. I know several young women ( under 20) that leave their babies a lot. Me on the other hand, my youngest just turned 1 a few days ago and I have NEVER left him overnight. I've went on date nights with my hubby maybe 5 times since he's been born and the longest time away from him has been about 6 hours. And it was his sister who lives with us, my 17 yr old, that kept him. I'll be having this little one in 3-4 weeks and my 17 yr old will be keeping him overnight. It will literally be the first night without him and I'm so sad about it. Who knows? Me and my hubby might just keep him with us at the hospital .. I haven't made my mind up completely yet.
But I could never be one of those moms that leave their child/children all the time! I miss them even when I'm away for my dr appointments lol

I'm young but also have always been way more mature than anyone my age that I'm aroundSo you could be right. I'm not gonna want to leave my baby either! Like I said I understand the occasional couple hours but all the time I could never!

My first I was only away from for maybe a half hour until he was 1 1/2 and I ended up hospitalized. It was horrible being away. Second was much older (3 1/2) for an overnight, but had time away to grocery shop and such. I have not been away from my toddler for more than hour and she's 2.
I have a SIL that had her kids in daycare even while on maternity leave. Now they are older and she works a good 10 hrs/day plus overtime and the kids are in all sorts of programs. They don't spend much time alone as a family. Personally I wonder why they even have kids because they don't seem to want to be around them. Different lifestyle I suppose. But it does really impact the kids.

I didn't leave my first 2 till they were well over a year old, over night definitely closer to 2 and that's because I had my second when my first was 19months.

I don't think I'd be able to. My husband's parents keep asking if we're going to let them babysit and I'm like umm eventually. I just want our baby all to ourselves in reality. Like someone else mentioned, it may be maturity for your friend. My sister had her first child her senior year of high school and I remember her still wanting to go out and leave the baby with our parents at night.

Yeah I definitely think it's her age and maturity. Everyone is different but yeah I definitely won't be wanting to be without my baby all the time. Idk how they do it honestly

My daughter will be 4 in September and I only been a way from her a handful of times for about two hours max n that's leaving her with my husband. I'm so over protective with her. She starts school in the fall n I feel like I'm going to loose my s*** lol I don't understand either how moms can be aways from their babies. Theirs so many bad people out there you can't trust no one!

Would never. I always say why have children if someone else is going to raise them ? we all need a break every once in awhile don't get me wrong but def not all the time.

Wow, a 19-year-old "mom shaming" another 19-year-old.
If you don't want to leave your baby, then don't. But can we *please* stop with judging other women for the decisions they make as mothers?!?

I can't parent like that, but a lot of people do. They have the mindset that they won't let having a baby change their life. I don't get it; you're a mom now, so your life is forever changed.
I've been away from my son for a few hours at a time, but not very often; he'll be two in a few months. The only people I've left him with, though, are my husband and our parents. The first two times I was away from him I was in the ER and then surgery a couple weeks later, and that was only out of necessity. He was three months old, and I couldn't imagine being away from him so soon by choice.

@niki you can get off my post with your negative comments. I'm not shaming her she's my friend. I simply asked if it's normal since yes I am a ftm and wanted to know if any other moms have been able to do that. And my age has nothing to do with it. But thanks for your rude comment? if you think I'm shaming her you clearly can't read correctly. Bye now!

My 1st baby was very challenging. He had colic and I struggled to get more than 1-2 hours of sleep a night for months. I left my son with my mom and dad when he was 6 weeks old overnight so I could get some serious rest. It wasn't easy, but it was very necessary for me to be healthy! It was one time, but worth it for me to feel human again! My son is almost 2 and has stayed with his grandparents many times overnight and I'm so grateful he loves being with them and is comfortable with other people (that of course, I trust and love myself). I think it's healthy for parents and babies to spend time apart some times! It takes a village, right? If you don't feel comfortable doing it, then definitely don't. I'm in my 30s and I'm comfortable with my baby staying with my parents overnight occasionally. I don't know if this is a "maturity" discussion. Everyone is different!

I dont want to be judged for this but about a month after having my first i had to have my appendix out and the surgeon messed up(giant hematoma along my right side and IV antibiotics for months) so i ended up staying in the hospital for a month. Well she stayed with SO for most of that time and by the time i was out of the hospital i got so used to not being around her it was hard to have her home. I ended up getting postpartum depression and it took a while for me to get used to her again. I feel so bad and hate myself for not wanting to be around her much but i hardly let her stay anywhere now. I usually wait for family to ask for her for the night or else she always with me.

@babypoppyseed as I said before I'm a ftm and was just wondering if it's normal. I don't know these things yet clearly because I haven't had a baby yet. I'm not judging anyone and definitely not judging my friend. She's a great mom I just was wondering if it's normal to be able to leave your baby for long periods of time so soon. And someone else brought up the maturity point I was just agreeing as it fits with my friends situation. She isn't the most mature person I know. Which I'm sure will get better the longer she's a mom and the older she gets. But once again I'm definitely not judging anyone. Was just genuinely curious!
