Rude nurses

The other day I went in to the hospital because I was driving and suddenly felt like I was gonna pass out. So I pulled over and sat for a minute and then my fiancé got out of the car to check on me and as soon as he opened my door I started puking a lot. And soon after I started feeling sharp pains going across my stomach that were coming and going. So we decided it would be best to go in because this has never happened, I didn't have any morning sickness this whole pregnancy. So puking isn't normal for me. Well we got there and they started monitoring me and everything seemed to be fine. My urine sample came back clean. So they said it was probably just slight dehydration and not eating often enough. As we were getting the checkout papers the nurse basically made me feel like I was stupid for having came in and was pretty much telling me not to come again. I'm a ftm so I get nervous if something happens that's not normal. It just really makes me mad that she was like that because that's their job is to reassure us that everything is okay. Sorry for the long rant it just has been bugging me?

That's okay last night when I went in they told me "these tests are expensive" when checking me for a yeast infection and Bv and water leaking! Like sorry?? Lol

Completely understand! This is #4 for me and I've had to goto L&D for various things this pregnancy (because the on call provider said to go get checked there) and have had multiple nurses tell me that I'm wasting their time and a Dr tell me to not call my primary & to not show back up at L&D unless I balloon up from swelling. Mind you I have history of preterm labor, preeclampsia, placenta abruption, GD, etc. my last came at 34weeks and that was just barely a year ago, baby before her is who put me into preterm labor just 2years ago...3 babies within 3 years and I'm expected to sit quiet when something isn't right? Ha yea nope, told my primary what I keep being told and she said to ignore them and to always call since I've been the one who's caught when everything has happened in the past since I know my body best. ALWAYS do what you feel is right, not what a nurse says. If I had listened to the nurses during my last 2 pregnancies who knows what the outcome woulda been (well my last we already had a dr tell us we woulda lost her because of the placenta abruption)

That's awful! I'm so sorry. I can't imagine being treated like this. They're just super at our hospitals. The nurses and doctors in L&D all agree that it's better safe than sorry, and they encourage expectant mothers to call or make a trip in if they're concerned about ANYTHING. You shouldn't have to worry about bothering them! They're supposed to be there to help you! Good grief.

I haven't had a problem till this one nurse usually they're super nice up there! She just made me so mad. If she doesn't like having to do her job so much maybe she should quit! It was after hours of my ob so I had no other options either. My doctors nurse has told me to go up if I feel like anything is wrong or out of the norm. It's frustrating when they're so rude just because nothing was actually wrong. They should be glad nothing was wrong that means my baby is healthy!

That's rediculous that she made you feel that way! Sorry you had that experience, especially as a first time mom. I went in for Braxton hicks that wouldn't stop a few weeks back and they stopped as soon as I got there. They still ran all the test and the nurses were extremely nice and reassured me to come in no matter what if I feel anything different. That's the way they should always be! Better to be safe than sorry!!! And if it was dehydration they should be glad you came in because it can put you into preterm labor. Please don't be afraid to go in if you feel anything out of the ordinary! I would have gone in too and this is my third, so don't feel bad!!! Hope your feeling better!

I had a rude nurse at l&d when I felt like he hadn't moved since noon and it was going on 9pm BC I have psoriasis(lifetime auto immune disorder that can cause skin to appear red flaky and it itches) and she practically yelled at me BC she thought it was poison oak rash. Luckily my hubs jumped in (before I had a chance to cry BC I was already stressed) and said in a firm tone " nope its psoriasis but I bet she wishes it was poison oak BC then it would be curable and she wouldn't feel so self conscious and uncomfortable in her own skin forever" nurse was speechless and he just wrapped his arms around me and said its ok beautiful and kissed my temple. Some nurses just lack compassion and politeness

You shouldn't be allowed to be a nurse if you don't like dealing with patients. Thank you all for making me feel better about it! I wish I would have said something to her. But it didn't even really hit me what she said until we were almost in the parking lot. I wish all the nurses were as nice as most are!

Nurses made my sister feel awful and embarrassed for going in for decreased fetal movement at almost 27 weeks. They sent her home. She didn't want to go back two days later when she still couldn't feel baby but I forced her. She had lost her baby. They hadn't detected baby the first time just her anxious raised heart beat. She still birthed her daughter and it could've been caught. NEVER let someone who is being paid for their time make you feel silly for checking on the well being of your baby. As a mother that's your instinct and it's your job. Good for you getting checked out and shame on whomever made you feel awful. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I hope you're feeling better.

Some nurses are just plain mean! I have been having a rough pregnancy and have been sent to the er and the nurse asked why i was there and she was training someone and the lady who was learning asked if i have had any problems before i could answer the one training her just butted in and said real snooty and said id say sjes here at least once a week... I ignored her and continued on and then the one learning asked what has been happening and i told her and the other nurse so like nothing is wrong then some people just have pain. Its like no i just told you what has been happening i wanted to leave and the doctor at walk in had sent me over there i felt like crying she was so rude and she always is.

I'm studying to be a nurse and find it pathetic when nurses act this way. One of the things we get told often is that if you start to become rude and snappy, or lose empathy and sympathy for patients than you need to change career as you've lost your touch. These nurses have obviously been there way too long and need to leave. They are not doing their job at all.

I went this morning because I've been having a bad spell puking and not being able to keep anything down, and as an EMT I'm fully aware of the bad things that can happen when an expecting mommy gets dehydrated so I just wanted to get some fluids. The nurse that was supposed to be "taking care of me" full on MADE FUN OF ME for coming to the ER. I was literally in tears. Comments such as "you're just going to have to suck it up and force yourself to eat and drink, if you care about your baby enough you can do it. Or do you just not care about your baby?"

Needless to say, my fiancée has been on the phone with the hospital supervisor pretty much all day.

The one nurse in my ob office is so rude. I never seen her before but she came in the room asked if anything was different. I told her my right upper area has been hurting (having gallbladder problems) and she just looked at my like i was stupid. She also found a trace of protein in my urine and my bp was high. I asked if she was gonna send it in to be looked at better she told me no its fine. Then she was supposed to go over breast feeding with me and just kinda said its good for you and like 2 other things about it. We always get asked to write a review about our visits if i could remember her name i would put in a complaint. I think they should at least act like they care while your in there!

I understand. I called one because when I would walk I would get a lot of cramp like feeling under my belly. Of course I panicked as this is my first pregnancy. The more I would walk the more cramps I would get. I called and the nurse was questioning me as to why I would even wanna come in. I'm like, first of all do not make me feel like I'm stupid. You shouldn't be a nurse nor should you be answering phones if you're going to be rude about it. Because I know a lot of first time moms like myself don't know what's normal. So please let me speak to another nurse.

And I made sure when I went in to talk to her supervisor. It's just rude , and I felt like I was being called stupid. Turned out it was a ligament that was stretching but regardless. Doesn't give her or any right. And I work in the medical field also. Never have I questioned my patients about anything they have doubts about

That's awful! Totally unacceptable! They are paid to be there, they aren't volunteering their time, it's their JOB! It's their job to reassure us, who are basically in one of the most uncertain and vulnerable time of our lives, they should be encouraging us to get things checked out.

A few weeks ago I got a few shocks from an electric fence, it's not the highest voltage but for some reason it really scared me. I was bawling on the phone, hyperventilating and they told me to come get check for baby's heartbeat/ movement. There was only 1 midwife on, and she stayed 30 minutes past her finishing time to make sure everything was ok. Although I was obviously extremely relieved bubs was ok, I said " sorry for making you stay late, probably sounds silly now in hindsight" and she reassured me it's far better to get these things checked that be anxious at home.

I'm really sorry you experienced such a nasty woman!

It's sad when someone hates their job so much they make the people they're supposed to be reassuring feel dumb. But I won't let this one bad nurse make me hate them all. I was just up there a few nights ago and my nurse that time made me promise to come up if anything remotely seemed off or not right to me. So not all of them are bad, it just sucks when you get one that is!
