Okay... this is probably going to be a long post...

I personally love AI2's during the day since you get multiple uses out of the shell before it goes in the pail or wet bag to be washed. These are also the best option for a tight budget. You really only need a few covers and about 30 prefolds or inserts if you plan on washing every other day. I have a lot of covers only because they are so dang cute! Most of the time I only use one or two covers throughout the day. My favorite inserts are ones that are stay dry. They whisk away moisture from babies bottom, which I really like. I only use hemp, cotton or bamboo prefolds/inserts since they are the most absorbent.

I use AIO's and pockets at night because I don't have to worry about folding a prefold. And they are easier to put on since they resemble a disposable in the sense that they are already ready.

My least favorite are the pockets though. I don't like un-stuffing them when they are soiled or wet. However, they will come in handy when you need to add inserts for more absorbency.

All of the diapers will last a long time no matter which ones you invest more in. It's all about proper care! I only put the prefolds and inserts in the dryer and I hang dry everything else. That way the heat from the dryer doesn't break them down faster. The only time I will throw the entire diaper in the dryer is when it's a new one and I'm prepping it.

Honestly, prepping the diapers was the most intimidating to me. But it's really not that bad. New organic materials (Hemp, Bamboo and Cotton) need to be washed and dried multiple times before the first use. Doing so washes away the natural oils and increases the absorbency in them. I've known women who wash and dry once and then use them. You can do that too. You'll notice after each wash and dry that they will become more absorbent.

Synthetic diapers (microfiber inserts, polyester, etc) only need to be washed and dried once and they are ready to use. Microfiber should never touch the babies skin though! You need something between the microfiber insert and the babies bottom.

Also, if you purchase new diapers, synthetic materials and organic materials need to be washed separately at first.

Since you're getting used diapers, you'll need to strip them before using. I've never had to do it, but i believe they have steps for that on fluffloveu as well.

As far as brands, right now I love Buttons and Best Bottom AI2 covers. They fit Jack very well. I have an assortment of AIO's and pockets for night time. And I love Nicki's, Funky Fluff and Grovia ONE. I only have two Grovia ONE diapers, but I want more. I don't know what kind of voodoo magic they used in making them, but they are amazing!

AI2 stands for all in two. It means it's a 2 part diaper system. You have the waterproof shell and a snap in insert or you can use a prefold.

Honestly, I started looking on Pinterest and gathered information there. A lot of sites that sell cloth have good info too. I've bought all my diapers from Nickisdiapers.com and diaperjunction.com. I know they both have info on their sites.

And asking people who use cloth is a great way to get info too!

Almost forgot, you'll need a cloth diaper safe diaper rash cream. I use earth mama angle baby. Things like Vaseline and Desitin puts a coating on the diaper and repels urine, which you don't want.

Also, since Jude is eating some solids, you'll probably want to invest in some liners and/or a diaper sprayer. The liners catch the poop so it makes for an easier clean up. If any residue gets on the diaper, you can use the sprayer to get the rest off. Or you can just wear gloves and dunk it in the toilet to get it off.

Ok great. My god sister said something about a bidet sprayer. I think that's what you're talking about. And I didn't know about the bum cream good note! I'm going to hit Pinterest asap.
