Finding out baby gender
Hello! I just wanted to share you all you new moms that waiting until 18-20 weeks to find out your child's gender is a thing of the past! At 10 weeks along you can request the new blood test which replaces the amniocentesis as well as detects the baby's hormones within your blood. The test I did was called MaterniT21 plus. At 12w4d I know my first child is a BOY! And for the record as a student I currently have state insurance and it was fully covered. Don't be afraid to ask for it. A friend of mine is one and a half weeks further along and she did not ask for the test- nor was she offered it. Amazingly I know first. Yay! Good luck. Xoxo to all you moms!

Most people call that test the harmony test... of course it's covered by state insurance. Most stuff is.. it's the people who actually pay for their insurance that don't have that kind of stuff covered. Its messed up how the government is.. people who don't even pay for their own health insurance get babies for free! Makes total sense!

I wouldn't say "of course it is" lots of stuff isn't covered for me. And you sound very bitter about your insurance... sorry but I work two jobs and go to school. I don't sit on my butt and wait for my free baby. I'm also 34 years old and have worked since I was 14. That's a really nice friendly assumption though. And I wanted to write the technical name of the tests because in previous posts people asked me but thanks for s***ing on my whole post. Have a great day! ?

I said that people who don't pay for their health insurance get to have babies for free, which you agreed with saying your baby is going to be free. And you're damn right I'm a little bitter. I pay out the ass for health insurance and I make good money and I'll be paying thousands for my child. So excuse me if I find it a little backwards that I pay to have coverage... to pay to have a baby. Yet you don't pay and can get the same benefits I do and have your kid for free.

That escalated.. my state insurance doesn't cover any of that stuff. But, I don't mind. As long as my baby is healthy im happy and will find out when the time comes! I work very hard and am not ashamed of being on state insurance though, but sometimes people need help.

My state only covers that test if you're high risk or over 35:/ otherwise it's $2000

@bell you're right sometimes ppl need help and people who don't qualify hate bc- well they don't qualify.

Amanda...you're complaining to the wrong person I have no control over our government. I paid for my own health insurance for plenty of years and I'm not going to explain myself to you any further. You will only come back and say something else rude. I believe comments like that belong in the "rant and rave section." Thank you.
My post was not intended to start any political arguments or negativity. This was a post about a lab test not my insurance carrier.

@MrsKFigs, it's nice that your insurance covered the test. My insurance does not cover it so I waited until 19 weeks and was elated to see it on the screen, where I could tell what it was without the technician having to tell me! It was a fun experience! Plus, the anticipation from the wait made it even more fun!

@ksanders- honestly that is SO cool! I don't know if constantly checking my email for a lab report was in anyway better ? it was stressful. I'm so glad you had a wonderful experience like that. Thank you for sharing it with me and congratulations!!!
