guys I made a dumb mistake and need advice

Last year I had some friends staying with me. Well his cat started seizing up in our house and I'm a sucker for animals. So I made a credit account to take her to the vet. Telling them that if I did this they had to pay me back. Well I ended up spending 750 on his cat and another 150 to get her cremated when she died. Well he never paid me back and I know I was dumb for doing it but I was naive and believed he would pay me back. Now with interest it's around $1000 and he hasn't given me a dime. I can't afford to pay it. I'm not working and it's screwed my credit. Can I sue him. The only proof I have is a witness who he was dating at the time. Maybe some texts and that his cats name is on the bill.

In short, yes you can sue.

I think we can all agree the cats outta the bag here, ?? I think if you chose to do that on your own it might end up falling back on you in the end even in court.

How do you get on judge judy.? And what about not having any evidence? Besides his ex. She was there when I made the deal with him

Seriously, go on judge Judy. They fly you out to California, and they have an allowance that is awarded to you from the show of whatever you win from the case.

Tell your friend to make a big enough moron of himself to judge Judy, she'll throw him out and then award you whatever you ask for cause she'll be annoyed with him.

At the time my husband had a job. I wasn't worried about it. He had a job and was in the army. Then he was discharged from the army and because of the manager not taking care of paperwork he lost that job. It's a long story. But he just recently a few months back got a decent job but we still can't afford to pay that. At the time when it happened I thought I would be fine. I know I was dumb to believe they would pay me back. I was way too trusting. I did tell him I would surely him if he doesn't contact me within a week about paying it back. I'm only asking $50 a month. That's a small amount and it's enough to keep the company happy and off my back

This is why my motto is always NEVER lend friends or family money you will need paid back to you. Always GIVE money and if they pay back then awesome, if not then you were already expecting that.

Those are my felines on the situation

Lmao at these comments.

Small claims is not expensive. You don't need a lawyer. I filed for $60 and won my "case" of more than what you're fighting for. File it online!

I'd try to start a paper trail now through text or emails writing out specifically what you guys discussed and use that as your paper trail in court. That way you have his statements in writing.

This might just have to be one of those lesson learned type situations... ?

Small claims court fees are not that expensive. I'm going through this now and it was less than $200 to file. I'm only suing for $500 but also asking for court fees to be added in as well. So when I win, she'll owe me close to $700.

I would talk to a lawyer (most have free consultations or a very cheap fee $20 for 1/2 consult) about your options. I'm thinking small claims is your only option at this point though. But a lawyer will tell you for sure what the best thing to do is.

Sorry pp. but most debt can't touch taxes.

Civil debt like this would never see an offset

No jokes, just Patrick. The cats couldn't handle being associated with ?. Roomie and I got into a long and heated argument about pronunciation one boring night.

Since you said you might have some texts I think you should definitely text him now asking when he plans on paying you back. Hopefully he responds in way that looks like he does indeed owe you and that will be your evidence. I personally like judge Milan from people's court and judge Mathis. Judge Judy is mean!

Honestly the money your gunna spend to take him to small claims court will surpass the actual bill itself.

Just threaten him with sueing and see if that helps. If not then take it as a lesson learned.

Нравится Ответить

You can try to sue but if they don't have any money it's unlikely you'll get paid back. Even if these a judgment in your favour they could always claim bankruptcy (especially if they owe a lot of other money)

@lala your joke doesn't make sense. It's not 'poo-ma' it's 'pyu-ma'.

Нравится Ответить

Take him on Judge Judy ??

Нравится Ответить

I would set up payment plans and take him to small claims. That's a lot of money to screw someone over with.

Нравится Ответить

Im of no help here but omg you guys are freaking hilarious????

Нравится Ответить

Well according to judge Milan and the people's court, a verbal agreement is still an agreement. If his ex is willing to be a witness, I'm sure that's pretty beneficial to your case. Also, do you have anything in writing or text with you asking him for repayment?

If they could not make their own account for the cat because of finances or bad credit. I wouldn't think they'd have the funds to pay you back. I don't think there's much you can do. It will seem like a he said she said type of thing.

Omg lala, this is a serious situation! Now I feel bad for laughing my butt off.

Op, that sucks! I don't know what you can do.
