Yea that's all pretty normal. Your nipples have to build up a tolerance. They have to get used to baby's sucking. One day, they just won't hurt.ntook me about 2 weeks.

The engorgement gets better after a couple of days and keeps getting better. Mother nature wants to make sure you have lots of milk?

You can hand express a bit to releave some engorgement. You can also hand express before nursing baby so he can latch easier.

The first couple of weeks are the hardest. I promise it gets better.

When your baby is crying and you have no idea why and nothing calms baby , and you nurse baby and baby is instantly happy and you think to yourself 'thank you Jesus', that's the magic ?

The first 2-3 weeks are rough but once you get past it you'll be so glad you kept up with it and it won't hurt. Engorgement sucks and hurts so bad but try applying some lanolin cream to your nipples after and between each feeding. Also, try to latch the baby before the engorgement gets to the point where it'll make latching hard. I know it's tough and can't always be done but something to think of if possible. Once your milk production regulates you won't get engorged as often and your breasts won't always be in pain.

Breastfeeding can be really tough in the beginning and when you're new at it it's normal to feel overwhelmed with it and feel like giving up. I felt the same way but decided to take it day by day and now my daughter is 18 months and still breastfeeding. Keep on keeping on Mama and good luck! :)

Like pps^^ said... to relieve engorgement you can try hand expressing with a warm compress just enough to relieve the pain...plus I suggest putting aloe gel in Ziploc baggies and refrigerate them...you can put them on your breasts after baby is done to relieve any sort of lingering pain... I did this with my 1st and it helped keep inflammation in my nipples to a minimum.

If you pump after breastfeeding it's only temporary relief but it will continue to tell your body to make more milk. And you'll be in a cycle of constant engorgment.

At 2 weeks the pain went away for me. I would hand express in the shower when it was really bad, that helped a lot
