mental aversion to breastfeeding

mental aversion to breastfeeding

I have been struggling now since the beginning of the 2nd trimester but I have tried to look at pictures, videos and even read about positive breastfeeding stories. But it truly leaves a lump in my throat even trying to visualize myself doing that and the pure thought of me being only way my child could get nutrition sounds like prison to me. I really am starting to feel bad about these thoughts, but I don't even want to risk breastfeeding for resenting my child for just eating.

You need to calm down and breath. I'm in my second trimester and haven't really looked into breast feeding. Try to relax and not worry about BF. I think mother instinct will kick in once you see your little bundle of joy and those aversions and thoughts will subside. And if they don't then there is milk supplement that can help your little one...it's not the same but you can't stress yourself out for something you have identified as being a possible problem. The good thing is you have identified it, come up with solutions if you are unable to breast feed...anyone that shames you or belittles you for something in your past that affects you now needs to quiet down. There's nothing wrong with not being able to see other women breast feed...I would find it odd if I were to straight up stare at babies breast feeding lol you're going to be fine ?.

Personally I think breastfeeding is wonderful but it wasn't for me, I hated it. Kudos to those that do it and can do it for years! I never liked feeding in public so I always felt like I was trapped in a room constantly feeding and I hated it. We'd have company over or we would be somewhere and I wouldn't even get to visit because I had to go to a room to feed. I felt like I lost myself so I finally switched to formula and instantly my mood lifted. If you don't want to do it don't pressure yourself into it. I'm pregnant with #2 and I won't even give bf a try this time. It wasn't for me last time so I know I won't like it this time.

I'm 36 weeks and have been dealing with this since the second trimester. I have done all the research possible even went to classes... I truly think I won't be able to handle it.

It's ok ..... I too was abused sexually I was younger though and I struggle with lots of things it's a challenge.... I'm on baby #3 and my first 2 kids I didnt breastfeed I was young and working 2 jobs and going to school so I felt like I didn't have time and I was misinformed... I now am wanting really badly to breastfeed with this baby I also have lost of fear I won't be patient enough lots of worries I know it will be hard at first but knowing how much nutrition and protection my baby will get it's worth a try and when you hold your baby you will have no doubts I think being pregnant brings out stronger emotions then we expect and when you actually hold your baby it will be ok...

Don't do it. If trauma in your life makes you sexualize breastfeeding, it is best you don't. And I would seriously consider checking into counseling. You would not be molesting your child. I breastfed all of mine but there are great alternatives out here. Do not feel pressured to bf. I hope you get the help you need though...that trauma may trigger anxiety attacks once you have the baby. Prayers.

My suggestion would be to seek out a counselor or therapist to help you overcome your concerns and to help you conquer what happened to you. The most important thing is that your baby will be fed either way you choose, breastfeeding isn't for anyone and that is ok. It is very important that you seek out help regarding what happened to you so that you can live your life without the past interfering with your family and future.

If you still decide to not bf which i dont blame you with what you have been through..tell your labor nurse and she csn tell your postpartum nurse that you do not wish to nurse or see the lc so everyone is on the same page. Im a ftm and a mother baby nurse and only lasted 12 days. Its alot and its insane how bad the hormones can get. It helped me not lose my sanity when i stopped.

If you don't want to do it, don't do it. Don't let anyone guilt you. Not everyone has a positive experience. As long as your baby is fed, clothed, loved, happy, and healthy, then nothing else matters ☺️

I'm all for breast feeding. I nursed my son until he was 2. But if you don't want to do it don't do it. They make formula for a reason. & you don't have to justify your reasons for using it.

Like some of the other ladies said, don't do if if you are uncomfortable. Your baby will be just fine if they are formula fed. It's more important for momma to be healthy and happy so that you can be there for your baby.
