Gestational diabetes isn’t fun and there are some slight risk to baby but it’s completely manageable. They will probably have you change your diet, you’ll limit your carbs per meal and then test your blood sugar in the morning and after you eat. Your doctor will see you a little more often and do a little extra monitoring of baby to make sure they are developing fine and not getting too big. I had it with my first. Just pay attention to your diet ?

You should ask your doctor for a referral for a nutritionist. This is my third time battling gestational diabetes. The first two I was able to control with diet and exercise, and cutting out carbs. However, this time around I was at a complete loss and nothing I was doing was helping me keep it under control... Turns out my liver was over compensating for the lack of carbs I was eating. So this time I actually need to eat more carbs per meal than I did before. I'd have never figured that out on my own and was close to be put on medication.
Anyway. Gestational diabetes sound more scary than it is. Just make sure you find support and make some changes and you'll be good. Your doctor should also prescribe you a glucose meter so you can keep track of what is going on with your body. The first two weeks are more trial and error, then you'll quickly figure out portions and what to eat. Hang in there, mama!

I'm glad you are seeing someone, K! Usually providers with diabetes background are super helpful and have tons of good resources for you. Also, a few things to know! If you are overly exhausted and stressed, your glucose will be higher than normal. So until you see a specialist to help you out, try not to be super overwhelmed or worried about this. There's still plenty of time to keep it under control to have a healthy mama and baby! Feel free to message me if you have any questions!
