Sorry this isn't baby related but I need some advice. My 13 month old has started throwing horrible tantrums, they started around 10 months old after I found out I was pregnant, but have gotten worse to wear he throws himself on the floor screaming if he doesn't get what he wants. My husband and I have both been trying to ignore him when he throws a fit but seems to make it worse so I will admit we give in sometimes. We are both just at a loss of what to do and want a handle on this before baby arrives. I don't even know if yoy would call this terrible 2s cuz he isnt 2 yet lol it's even gotten to the point he is hitting us now when he gets upset.

Ignore the tantrum, he knows sometimes you give in so it's worth kicking off for. Be consistent, if you say no then mean no. If he hits you, keep him at your arms length or leave the room if it's safe to do, don't give any attention to the negative behaviour, say no and move on. He's not old enough to yet understand time out etc, so think it's too soon for that.

Going through the same thing with my almost 2 year year old. He throws massive temper tantrums and will even kick and punch things. He’s nonverbal so it’s even worse. We usually hold him and talk him down and tell him why what he’s doing is not okay, if he does it again he goes in his quiet space for a little. Wish I could be more of a help but it’s just the age. I also think they can sense the change coming.

My daughter was the same. Started throwing horrible tantrums at 11 months, screaming, shrieking, throwing herself backwards. It was rough. It was temporary though. They go thru a big growth spurt at 12-13 months and I think it's part of it. It should get temporarily better around 15 months until they get close to 2 then you get a whole new kind of tantrums.

Ignore it. Don’t give in. It’s just something they have to grow out of.

Thank you everyone! We are trying to just ignore them, and hopefully he grows out of this stage soon!
