They both need to respect the rules and boundaries of your home. Good for you sticking to your guns!

My kids are like this lol. I tell them 10x to do something and it's as if they don't hear me or they lag to get it done. Oh dad tells them though and they are right on that shat lol wth not fair!

Pfft. Actions have consequences, just like real life. Grandma needs to learn to deal. Good on you!

Oh man, that must be annoying. I couldn't imagine my mom being mad at me for rightfully punishing my child.. She'll get over it, op.

They will both get over it, from my perspective you did awesome. ????

At that age, kids are definitely old enough to understand consequences. It's not like you wanted her to shampoo the carpets or something. Picking up stuff should have only taken a few minutes. I wouldn't call that picking on a child.

My 5 yr old just picked up his things, your 10 yr old definitely can. Tell your mom that you're teaching your children life skills and that she needs to back off

No, no, i didnt think that. I was just clarifying :)

Thank you ladies. I dont feel like i was wrong. I just get frustrated and am not sure what else i am supposed to do.

Either way, im wrong. She grows up and is a crappy adult, its my fault for not teaching her better. I punish her now, its not fair to her.

Well, i hate punishing my kids. I hate making them miss the things they love, but all of life isnt a bunch of games. You take the good and the bad. The stuff you like and the stuff you dont.

My frustration is also with my girls, bc i am having a hard time with them lately. Its just round and round in circles!!!!

Anywho, thanks for reading my rant

Sounds like you did awesome! I didn't mean to come off like I was criticizing your choice of punishment. If I did, I'm sorry. Hopefully the lesson sinks in!

Your not a bad mom i have a 2&6 yr old boys and they clean up after them self before bed. My 6 year old is responsible to pick up his n his lil brother. Clothes from the bathroom after shower time. He does it now without me reminding him my 2yr old starts to pick up his toys when i say ok its bed time. Your children are old enough to clean after them self and have chorus.

Nope, you're right. You asked her to do one chore and she chose not to. You're teaching her there are consequences to every action. Keep doing what you're doing!

You're doing exactly what you should. Grandma needs to butt out. She's not the parent and shouldn't be questioning your parenting decisions. How is she supposed to grow up without being a total jerk of there are no consequences for her behavior?

Nope, at that age they are definitely old enough to learn and know consequences. Good onya for actually teaching them that!

Tell your mum to bugger off and leave you to parent as you deem fit. As a grandma I know i'd prefer my grandkids growing up with the knowledge of boundaries, rules etc and that there are consequences when they are broken.

My mom babies my oldest, always has.

My kids dont get a lot of tv time, especially during the week, bc of homework, chores, extracurriculars, etc.

So their classes are their main source of entertainment.

Dd1 had fair warning that she wouldnt be going to class, usually a 3 strike rule. So, its not like she didnt get a chance.

Im just frustrated bc this is what it turns into with my mom every time. Every. Time.

You're right she's wrong. There's no way to teach them if there are no consequences.

You're not a bad mom. I don't know your situation or home life but I doubt you pick on your oldest. Usually we expect more responsibility from our first born because they're older and the younger ones look up to them. I probably wouldn't take away dance class, but that's just me. I would have taken away tv, games or something like that. Classes are usually paid. But it's your home and your rules. I bet she cleans up when told next time.
