He shows a lot of emotion towards our children. I see the light in his eyes and you can tell he loves them. He struggles to connect to people though. Sometimes he's great at showing me affection. It's his struggle. He grew up in a very messed up home. No one talked about things. They have no connection to one another. No one showed love to one another. I grew up a little similar. I wear my emotions on my sleeves sometimes.
My husbands from a culture that's very macho and you don't show weak emotions. I growl about it all the time. I know he cares and is a loving person towards me and the kids but he's a tough nut to crack if you don't know him. He's not a talker and I never shut up lol. He's been coming around since we married and moved in together. I try not to pry often when he's cranky or shuts down but sometimes I can't help myself to pick at him and get him to express his feelings but it usually ends up with me cranky too. But now that being said I catch him watching me sometimes smiling to himself or laughing with the kids and lord get him talking to his grandma and he's a basket case lol. But if you knew him he looks gruff, very manly and doesn't smile much. Some ppl are just more to themselves and hard to read.
My husband is an emotional guy. Much more emotional than me, but that's good I think. He's a cuddler and coddles our boys. He's definitely a push over for them. I'm the opposite lol.
My DH is like this too. Has had a hard time showing emotions since he was a kid, his family used to tease him about having emotions, and eventually he just quit showing them. I can see the spark in his eyes when he's with the kids but sometimes I have to remind him that I need that spark too. I know he loves the kids and I, just has a hard time showing it.
I mean your dh isn't mean he just doesn't show emotions really there's nothing wrong with that. As long as your son knows his father loves him I think it's ok. And of course you see that he does show some emotion and that he loves him so I think its fine.
Side note:
My dh is a f*** ing girl sometimes ? but the kids know he loves them.
I'm not an overly emotional person myself, so this is usually just fine with me.
We are both logical and practical for the most part. He is very loyal to friends and family, very helpful, and can show love and appreciation. But his family isn't very affectionate and doesn't talk about things openly.
I do joke with my DH sometimes telling him that he's a "robot". ?
His lack of emotion is problematic for big things. When we were struggling with infertility it was a real problem for me. When I had my second chemical pregnancy I was devastated, and he simply patted me on the back. ?
It actually made me question our relationship that he couldn't support me the way I needed. Thankfully he was willing to go to counseling with me.
Through counseling we agreed on a fertility treatment (donor sperm). We conceived our lo and my DH was great through my pregnancy and he's wonderful with our little boy.
So everything is fine now, but it does make me worry if we go through another major stressor.
I married my so after 2 years of dating and it was the first time in those two years that my family had ever seen him smile.
I've seen him cry twice in 5 years and I've seen him get crazy angry once.
He's not an emotion sharer.
I was afraid this would affect how much I felt he loved me and how much love our kids felt but he has his way of making us all feel loved and cared for beyond anything I've ever experienced.
