Just a rant.

I really despise the health care system right now. It makes no sense. I was referred by my OB to my hospitals diabetes clinic for gestational diabetes. My insurance covers that hospital and the clinic inside the hospital. I have seen the nurse and dietician there a few times no problem. They wanted me to see the dr at the clinic so I did. Apparently the Dr is not employed by the hospital but is a consultant that comes in 1 day a week. She's also the only Dr at this particular clinic so if you need to see the dr she's the only one. She bills separately from the hospital and doesn't accept my insurance. On top of that we (the dr and I) even had a discussion about my insurance so she could decide what brand of med to prescribe me. So she would have known sitting there that she doesn't accept my insurance. I know most of you are use to this system and understand how it works, I've just moved here from spending almost my entire adult life in the U.K. Where there's none of this. You just go to the Dr or hospital and that's that. I've submitted an appeal so hopefully that will work out. I really don't want to pay $400 for a 20 min app where she literally didn't even touch me just reiterated what I already knew and prescribed me medicine that wasn't even the right dose. ??‍♀️ I really am not trying to start any arguments about the health care system here vs other places, I just wanted to rant and get it out. If this turns into a thing on here I'll just delete this. It's awful trying to call all around to figure the bill out with all the pregnancies hormones.

They may offer a discount if you pay out of pocket but you have to ask for it, they won't volunteer it. Always ask for discount before you pay your bill even if insurance does pay. Like my hospital, for example, gives a 10% discount if paid in full.

I appealed the insurances decision and was told they accept a lot of these appeals the first time. Now I know I have to ask every Dr if they actually work for the hospital or if they're a consultant.

But thank you if it comes to it I will enquire about a discount if paid in full.

I agree 100%! The American insurance system is the worst. We were paying almost the same we pay for rent/mortgage and still have lots of out of pocket bills - and my company flipped half the insurance bill for me. WTF? Insurance coverage gets me so upset. We shouldn't have to worry if seeing a doctor will cause us debt. We should be able to go when we're sick and not worry about missing a house payment ?. Meanwhile, the price of insurance goes up 8-10% a year and the average income goes up 2-3%... That makes sense...

I work in a pharmacy and it's heartbreaking to see what the American healthcare system is doing to people. It's absolutely burying elderly, young, disadvantaged, and needy. But hey if your rich it's a great system ?

That sounds awful! So many people here in the U.K. complain about the NHS but in reality, it's great and we have it so easy. Babies are so expensive after they are born, let alone having to "pay to have a baby!"

Seriously don't know how you guys do it ?
