Do you think this could be it?

Do you think this could be it?

I am 10 weeks! My A1C was just barely elevated. And they are already sending me to the gestational diabetes clinic at my hospital and having me order a glucometer. My mother does have diabetes so maybe that's why? I have been trying to look up things about GD and saw that progesterone can contribute to GD? Well I was taking progesterone in oil injections due to previous miscarriages. My last shot was the night before they did my blood tests. Could my A1C go down now that I am no longer taking progesterone? I am going to call my dr Monday morning to see. It might just be me hoping against hope. ?

I'm not sure about progesterone and A1C, but I hope everything goes well for you! The blood checks are annoying but you get used to them. If your mom has diabetes you may be at risk for developing type 2 down the road, so adopting healthy habits now will help you even if you don't have GD!

That's so true! I hadn't thought of it that way but you're totally right. My mom and my grandma both have diabetes so.... it's probably about time for me to think about it too.

Hi! I was in the exact same situation as you, except I was taking progesterone injections for IVF. My a1c was slightly elevated around that same time and was sent to a nutritionist. I kind of didn't believe the test because I don't have any typical risks to get GD (overweight, poor eating habits, etc) and I thought progesterone could have been the culprit. Regardless, I started checking blood sugars and monitoring my diet to humor the nutritionists. They did say some people in our situations had the choice to take the glucose tolerance test earlier than the ~28 week mark... which now I recommend because I just failed my test a few days ago. Like failed with a value of 214! I recommend this because between like week 18 and now I didn't avoid sugar and didn't test my sugars because I was so skeptical and for the month that I did wat my diet and levels, everything was looking fine. Now I'm like "oops" and wished I didn't indulge my sweet cravings so much. I don't think I was too harmful (hopefully) but I would have benefited from an obvious fail earlier so I would have continued better habits. I mean I already ate pretty healthy and exercised, but I wouldn't turn down ice cream or the occasional cherry coke cravings. Now that I'm fully GD diagnosed I am going to be much more dedicated to the diet and exercise which seem to work fine for me to keep sugar levels under control. I remember feeling like you, confused of why it's caught so early... and who knows, maybe it IS progesterone and one day they'll make that connection scientifically, but until then.. you didn't do anything wrong to get it, it just happens sometimes! All you can do is put in the effort as best you can! I'm always happy to share recipes, meal plans and exercises. Holler if you are interested. Best of luck, you'll be fine I'm sure!

Thanks, I've been checking my blood 4 times a day for a few days and it has been elevated a couple times. So I think I do have it. I have been trying to look at it like learning for the future because my mom (and her mother) both developed diabetes in the 50's. So hopefully if I learn to eat diabetes friendly now I can push it off at least a few years.

GD occurs when there is close relative (parent or sibling) that has diabetes.
