Meta ones tend to be more wobbly and creaky. I’d go for a good quality wood one

If I had to do it again I would say metal. We spent $2400 on a wooden bunk bed and my ds1 ruined it by chewing it. ?

My parents had a metal one years ago and it lasted forever. Don't even remember why or how they got rid of it lol
