My baby GRUNTS in her sleep?!!
Lately I've noticed that our baby has been grunting in her sleep. Her face turns red and it sounds like she's straining but she's not pooping. She will fall asleep and then start fussing and grunting and this will continue on for about 2 hours off and on every 20 minutes. Anybody else experience their baby grunting in their sleep??!! She's almost three weeks old. What could it be??! She acts like she is mad. We are clueless!

My daughter does this she's 2 weeks old. To me it sounds like she has gas or is trying to poop, it's been worrying me all day. This is my 2nd baby and I don't remember this with my first. She goes to Dr tomorrow and I plan to ask!

It's normal, newborns grunt all the time and are actually super loud lol. No worries :)

@bridgette I have read that it could just be gas, but then I read it could also be reflux. She just started doing this the past few days. She is fussy too while she sleeps. Just wanna figure out if its something to be concerned about. Please let me know what the dr says tomorrow!!

Mine does too. Pretty sure it's gas....

Ugh. Its so frustrating. We use the Dr Brown bottles to help prevent gas...but she also feeds straight from me. She obviously is getting gas from me. If it is gas.

They are pretty much just wonky the entire first 2 months. As soon as they come out of their after birth sleepy stage. It can be other things. But people commonly assume natural behaviors are medical problems when in reality it's just them feeling, growing and checking out the outside world. They will even go through a fussy period pretty steadily during the newborn stage. Hang in there. Bottle type rarely cure any part of this stage. Just hold them a lot. Skin on skin. Rock them. Bounce them. Move them. Roll their legs. This period during the "4th trimester" is really just getting adjusted. Once they adjust they will be onto the next confusing stage. True story! ❤️❤️❤️

I feed formula so I promise it's not just from you girl. They will suck in air no matter what. I've heard good things about gripe water. I grabbed some but have to wait till Thursday to try, since it says 2 weeks or older. Otherwise I just pick her up and try to burp her again or rub her back when she does it. Hate seeing her uncomfortable ?

Like pp said though too, they go through stages, I even read they cry out, grunt, squeak, etc when entering different sleep modes at night. So I've been giving her a min before grabbing her to make sure she's not still asleep.

Both my son first and now my daughter did this. Our pediatrician attributed it to "learning" how to poop and fart.
Also my son did have mild reflux (I can't remember how he was diagnosed tho) and what they had is do for that was elevate his head while sleeping so stick a pillow under half his crib and the also had us keep him upright 20 minutes after each time he ate.

My baby does it. It's his pooping grunt. It takes him forever to poop. I've timed his pooping with his feeding so I'm usually waking him to feed when he's ready to poop. If he's focused on nursing he forgets to be mad about pooping and just goes.

My first and now second baby both did/do this. In our case, it's nothing but normal loud baby sleeping. This time around we're much better at "tuning it out" and just pick her up when she actually wake up and cries. Good luck! Babies are noisy sleepers!

Completely normal, I have custody of my niece, who is barley a month old and since she was born she has been a major grunter. I didn't know it was normal so of course I rushed her into the pedi and he said it's normal as long as it's not accompanied by high pitch screams just them sleeping. My new lo will be here soon, and I'm sure I'll have two little grunters in the house. Lol

My LO does this and now I'll sit him up in the boppy for 20-30 after he eats and it seems to help.
