Leg swelling at 33 weeks ?
Leg swelling at 33 weeks ?
My dr is sending me to get checked for blood clots in my legs, because he is concerned about the swelling. The thing is, my feet and ankles aren't swollen. Which I thought that's common during pregnancy.

My legs are swollen but OB told me yesterday it was normal. Keep us posted.

My legs (not my feet) are swollen and it's bc of pre-eclampsia.

Isn't pre-e just another term for high blood pressure??

I have deep vein thrombosis. I never had any problems until I got pregnant. I noticed one leg was swollen so they did an ultrasound and I do have a blood clot in my left leg and I'm on a blood thinner which everyone has had said is safe for the baby. They do ultrasounds of the blood clot every other week. My doc said it's very common and most of the time is genetic.
Hopefully everything is ok ?

@alt thanks!! I'm going for an ultrasound here within the hour! I'm kinda nervous!!!
Did they put u on bed rest or anything?

Mine! My situation was scary because it was only one leg swelling, my right. & it was red and hot behind my knee. It looked huge compared to my left. They do an ultrasound on your leg (just like they would on your belly) and make sure you don't have any deep vain blood clots. Luckily they found nothing. Baby just loves always being on the right and is pressing on my nerves.
Don't be nervous, you'll be fine! Positive thoughts ?? & it's not painful at all. If they do find a clot, they'd probably put you on blood thinners ??

No thankful they didn't! They did say if they see any changes then they will. They are also considering inducing me around 37 weeks just keep the risk low.
My mom had it as well and they put her on modified bed rest but that was 21 years ago. Also my doctor know I don't work and I spend most of my days doing school work on the computer.
Good luck and happy thoughts sent your way.

Nope just my legs and ankles. And it's my calves not my thighs. Does elevation help with the swelling? For me that seems to bring it down. But once we started noticing the swelling hubby bought a blood pressure machine and I just keep an eye on that. So far so good.

I worry about Pre E because my mom had it and I've read that it can be genetic.

Pre-E is not just another term for high blood pressure. High blood pressure is a major symptom. Other symptoms are swelling, and kidneys spilling protein into urine. Boiled down to most simplicity: pre-e happens when your body has noticed the baby is foreign DNA and has actively started to react to it. At minimum, you get the swelling/high blood pressure/protein in urine. At worst, your body actually tries to reject the baby by severely decreasing blood flow to the placenta. So, that's why we have to get our urine sample checked so much more frequently at the end, why they watch BP so closely, and why they take sudden swelling so seriously. Basically, if mild they manage symptoms. If severe, they induce you before your body cuts off blood supply to placenta or otherwise harms baby. In sorta a nutshell.
Probably you just have normal swelling of pregnancy! (Lots of us do... ?) Good to get it checked out, good luck! Try not to worry until you have something to worry about!
