I think just the majority of the time the ultrasound weight is wrong for many women my sister's doctor said the baby was going to be around 8lbs and he came out 11lbs 9oz vaginal lol oh boy was he wrong lol he later told her it's hard to predict exact weight and if he knew the baby was going to be so big he would have given her a c section and my doctor won't do it I always ask him and he says he doesn't like to say what the estimated weight is because moms always told him he was wrong any way I don't think you'll get chewed out I'm sure lots of people feel the same way :) any way have a happy Friday :)

I was told my baby was going to be 10lbs according to the ultrasound and he was only 8lbs. It is just an estimate.

You're a perfect example, LOL.

I think it's partially because of the csection epidemic in the US that many ladies are unaware of before they have kids. I had no idea that there were so many unnecessary csections performed until I had my first daughter and began researching birthing options. So, for me, when I see someone post about how their doctor said their baby is going to be 'big,' it makes me wonder if their doctor is also trying to convince them to schedule a more convenient (but risky) induction or csection. Obviously not all doctors do this, but it's something to be aware of. Luckily there is a movement in the US of getting back to more natural birthing practices (thanks in part to the movie The Business of Being Born) and I think that's why you're seeing so many comments about how ultrasound can be off.

I always wanted a big baby, like at least 8.5lbs until I realized how much it hurt delivering my 6.15lb baby lol. I'm pretty sure this one will be bigger though

I'm like you Krystal I could care less what anyone says about my babies weight being wrong or not accurate. At my last ultrasound at 32wks my doctor told me my daughter was 5lbs and 2 ozs so of course I'm going with that :) if she is indeed smaller then what they say she'll be then oh well I don't care as long as she's healthy. :)

Firstly, big baby doesn't equal healthy baby. A reason people probably say this often is because I often read on here about women being afraid of birthing a big baby...so it's just reassurance. Then there's also a lot of Drs who push unnecessary inductions and csections for estimated big babies. They're only supposed to consider csection if baby is measuring over 11lbs (according to ACOG) Also according to ACOG, inductions shouldn't be done for this reason because they are shown not to improve the fetal outcome. But drs still do this all the time anyways when it's not needed, and they often make women feel incapable of birthing babies on their own.

Lol, because they are often wrong. I just had mine and was worried baby was too big but my doctor said it can be off by a pound, that's good info to know isn't it? I think it is.

Yes ma'am I agree it's good Info to know, that's why they tell us it's just an estimate, but when people are just posting an ultrasound saying my son/daughter is so and so pounds then I don't think people should tell that mommy her kid isn't going to really be that size. After all, i think the doctors would no more since it's his patient..ESPECIALLY more then then strangers on an app.

That's just one thing that annoys me, I'm sure all of you have seen things that annoys you to.

My daughter's ultrasounds were spot on. I was told she'd most likely be a 9 lb baby and she was 9 lbs spot on. The last ultrasound I had with her was 34 weeks. This baby has been measuring about the same as her. At 34 almost 34 weeks baby measured 5 lbs 14 oz. doctor said "IF baby continues to grow at the normal rate (I.e. Half a pound a week), then baby would be about 9 lbs as well". You just have to take everything with a grain of salt. I won't get another ultrasound. Am I going to be upset if my baby doesn't weigh 9 lbs? No. It's a guess based on normal growth patterns. I make bigger babies. I know that. This baby's head is measuring in the 99th percentile ( measuring almost 38 weeks at almost 34 weeks). The first question my husband had was would I need a c section and my doctor immediately said no. That we would try natural and go from there. I just wish more women wouldn't take things so seriously. If you don't trust your doctor find a new one.

Just curious if anyone's doctor has given an estimate and it was spot on? My midwife/ob does not give estimates only because they can be so off. I'm fine with this because I know our bodies are designed to deliver the baby that's inside us weather it be a 6 pound baby or 9 pound baby. I do think some women are "scared" into thinking their babies are going to be so big that they should have a c section or an early induction. sadly I also know there are practitioners who do this because a holiday weekend is coming up or a vacation is coming up and they want to avoid as many deliveries as possible. If someone chooses to believe her practitioner when they say you're going to have a 10 pounder then thAts perfectly fine, however I would hope the practitioner wouldn't use this to scare them into a c section or induction. From stories I've heard from friends, family, etc it seems as though all if their estimates have been off by a couple pounds. That's just the people I've been in contact with though.

See I was nervous that at my 24 week ultrasound because my baby's weight was 2-3 weeks ahead of the average. I asked my doctor at my last visit if she could give me an estimate for how much he weighed because he was measuring big. I'm pretty sure she lied to me to make me feel better. She told me he was tiny, and measuring a week behind. She's anti-csection unless its an super emergency, she would rather a lady labor for 3 days than preform a csection for no need. V
