If someone told me 9 years ago when my son was first diagnosed that I would be here taking him to middle school orientation where he will be starting gen ed classes in the fall I wouldn't have believed them. It just goes to show there really is sunshine after the rain. (Also I feel like I sap for crying)

You're a good mom

@shari you have no idea what those words mean to me. ❤ It has been a long road with many years of questioning myself as a mom. Thank you ?

Questioning yourself shows how concerned and careful you are. I second that, you're one great mom Mary ❤️??Robbie and Damien are lucky to have you!

I'm the lucky one. Robbie gets so much credit for making me the person I am. Seeing everything he's had to overcome really put my petty struggles into perspective.

You are the mom your kids need-someone told me that years ago when I was struggling with two toddlers and being so close on age! I know you're not alone in questioning yourself as a mom, I go to a moms group here and it's the common theme, we all seem to be so hard on ourselves trying so hard to give them the best life possible but often we feel drained or inadequate (how I feel raising a teen) but we just keep doing our best when we fail which we will, that's ok they'll make it cause we love them. The hard season I went through when two of my kids were toddlers/preschool age is a thing of the past and I'm enjoying them in a new way so we just need to remember that things get better in time...now that area is doing well but instead I'm battling with a teenager phew that's something new but we're trying our best learning together this new life- lots of blow ups, lots of heart to heart talks and lots of British talking to break tension (something she's made up which is our thing now lol) and through it all I've learned to let the little things go, learned to forgive and ask for forgiveness, learned that it's ok we won't always agree and that she's her own individual and she's unique and one of the more important things I've learned recently is to allow her to see me as a human being who cries and struggles too so she can be here for me and feel she's needed in the relationship and that she can help me and it's ok to not do everything perfectly. She loves when I'm just honest and open with her about my struggle instead of putting on a facade that Im mom and I know and do everything right...anyways You are a great mom believe it ?

Yes He's on the spectrum and also has attention disorder and an anxiety disorder . He was diagnosed at 3 with Autism after daycare noticed he was having a pot of trouble socializing with other kids and was very violent towards them and staff when he was upset. They also noticed that while he could speak a lot of it was repeating his favorite movies and he couldn't answer questions directly.
Early intervention is definitely the key. We credit his first placement with him being who he isntoday. Finding the right people is the cornerstone.
