I'm feeling so guilty. We tried unswaddling for 4 days, it was not going great. He would sleep but was very restless so I was losing a lot of sleep. I was just diagnosed with burnout/severe exhaustion after a fainting spell so we broke down and swaddled tonight. I feel like such a quitter and am very disappointed in myself.

Don't feel like a failure. You have to do what's best for you. Us mommas have to get some sleep so we can take care of everyone else.

You should read the article I read earlier today. It basically said if it works and is better for you and your child than do it. To hell with the naysayers. People get upset that I choose to cosleep with my kids saying I am setting them up to sleep with me forever. I know my kids won't go into their teens wanting to cuddle with me! Lol my 3 year old is in his own bed as we speak. :) save your sanity, Damien won't want to be swaddled forever.

I second that. I would swaddle that boy until he hates it. It's not like he's going to be 10 years old asking you to swaddle him. Maybe I'm missing something, but I hate to see you be so hard on yourself for something like this. He's still so little. I would swaddle Jude if he liked it. My aunt is an OB nurse and she swaddled her babies until 6 months. They are only 5 and 8 now so it wasn't that long ago. Don't torture yourself or him. Xoxo feel better.

Thank you ladies, DH basically said the same things you did. I'm just not good at handling it when I don't succeed at something. It also didn't help that I had a sanctimommy tell me the other day that he's never gonna learn to roll from back to front if I keep him restrained in a chair all the time. I know it shouldn't have but it stuck with me. Doesn't help either having mental exhaustion, all my emotions are so far out of whack.

I swaddle her for naps and bed and leave her undone when she's awake. She hates tummy time so she won't be rolling any time soon anyways, she just lays there and screams.

Not to offend, but is there a reason you don't want to swaddle him?
Mary·
No offense taken. We wanted to start transitioning him to his crib from his rocker. He'll stay swaddled in his rocker but breaks free when he is in his crib. I woke up one morning and the swaddle was completly off and he was turned sideways with the swaddle near his face.
He slept so great last night swaddled in his rocker. 12 full hours. You girlies made me feel so much better.

Agree with what all the other ladies said. Please, don't be so hard on yourself. You've got to do what's best for baby AND yourself.

I'm thankful for this post. I'm having a hard time and sleep regression with Clara. We have established a great bed time routine that has been working for weeks. However she wakes alot during the night just to be comforted back to sleep. So she ends up in my bed because mama needs some sleep too. Hubby thinks I'm too soft and need to put her back on bed as soon ass she is sleeping. Easy for him to say as he hasn't lost any sleep!
Thanks Niki for reminding me that co sleeping isn't a bad thing and they do tell us what they need and work for them.
Keep up the food work ladies and don't listen to the nay sayers.

Never feel guilty for doing what's best for you and your baby Killian's a tummy sleeper and the only way I can actually get him to take a decent nap to sleeping on his stomach but due to needing to round out his head I've actually had to start swaddling him when he has never been swaddled and having to lay him in his Rock and play to sleep at night instead of his bassinet

I'll keep swaddling Adan until he can roll onto his tummy. It's the only way he'll sleep well! When we swaddle him to sleep he doesn't move much. The last 4 nights in a row he has only woken up once through the night and goes right back to sleep after his feeding. I wouldn't stop unless he can roll onto his tummy. Do what's best for you and baby. ?

I still swaddle my son and he is 3 1/2 months.

Layla is not ready to be swaddle free at night either. Ugh. I don't know how I'll be able to break the habit!!

Highly recommend double swaddling if he is breaking free. We do a miracle blanket topped with a swaddle me. He is 11 weeks old. Planning on keeping swaddle for a bit longer. I think my daughter was in hers until around 4 months.

I'm using the Merlin's magic sleep suit for my son. He's almost 11 weeks old, and the past few weeks he's just been getting his arms loose every time he's swaddled. I stopped swaddling and he was waking up from jerking awake. He could only sleep in his rock n play or with me holding him be because of it. The sleep suit is awesome for him. He sleeps in his crib on his back now, literally all through the night (only wakes up to feed once or twice lately) and I think it kind of prevents him from waking up if he does startle and it keeps him snug and cozy. There's no way to get out of it, and his arms can still move fairly freely. I got it on Amazon after a friend with a one year old recommended it. Their little girl still uses it in the larger size. It might be a good option for her to transition towards not swaddling, or you can choose to continue to use it.

I used zippadee zip sleepers with my son starting at 5-6 months and they worked wonders. Plan on using with my girl once she fits in the one we kept from her brither??
