Pushing IUDs For those who have had your 6 week appointment and are going on BC, do you feel like…

Yes I feel the same way! My doctor went over all the birth control options for breastfeeding and very strongly pushed the IUD. She talked about all the horrible side effects with all the options; depo shot- huge uncontrollable weight gain, implant- heavy bleed for months, pill- not effective as most people forget to take it, etc. Then she talks so highly of the IUD saying it's the best option. After I decided I wanted to do the mini pill she said 'well that decision doesn't need to be final, we'll see about an IUD at your 6 week check up'

Now I'm second guessing what option I should go with

Ok, I'm glad it's not just me being paranoid. That's really sad if they are pushing it. I don't doubt its a great BC, but we shouldnt be pressured into it. I texted my friend who's a nurse and midwife to ask if Drs get kickbacks. I'll keep this updated.

My Dr was trying to push for me to get it...NO thank you I had it before and it started to go into the wall of my uterus (sorry don't want to scare you but it can happe) I'm all set I'll get the pill if anything I will never stick another object up there again that does not belong

I loved the Mirena IUD...I had it for 10 years (replaced at the 5 yr mark) after the birth of my son and had no side effects. I plan on getting it again at my PP check. We conceived our daughter 2 months after getting it removed ??

I just spoke to my friend.. And yes she asked the OB she is interning under if they got kick backs for IUDs.. he confirmed they do.

@Hazel.. My friend was an ER nurse before going into midwifery and I just got off the phone with her and yea, not doing Mirena. I didn't want it to begin with but yea.. ER nurses are scary lololol.

Same thing happened to me. I have another post mentioning. No one commented on it. I went in sure I wanted the pill and nothing to do with an iud. I left with the idea that nothing was acceptable because of my weight age and blood pressure besides an iud. I asked for other options and he told me diaphragm or condoms. He couldn't believe I was interested in getting fitted for a diaphragm. He told me to call my insurance and give them the codes to make sure it was covered. A code for the device and for the implantation fee. He told me right then- implantion fee was how they "make their money." I was going to go with paraguard bc it doesn't use hormones, but since u mentioned this I'm realizing I too almost got talked into something I didn't want. My aunt is an RN and she said not to get it since I want another baby within 2-3 years. It took forever to conceive as it was. Ugh!

Yea DH and I decided we are just gonna do condoms for the most part since I only have a 1% chance of getting pregnant without medical intervention we figure if we forget a condom and I finally get pregnant naturally that it's meant to be. I am planning a ligation though after 1 more or 5 years, whichever comes first.

I agree to not do IUD I have been looking into different options and that one just scares me. Not willing to take that risk.

My doctor tried also but I'm sticking with getting the like rod in my upper arm (last 3 years)

I had the mirena and hated it!! Hormones were horrible and I bled for the first 8 months non stop. I don't recommend it
