We've tried every brand of pacifier out there and my son just won't take one, we've even tried teething rings, and stuffies. He wants his hands but his motor skills aren't there yet so he gets even madder and louder. Are there other things I can try when he just wants to suckle and not eat? or am I doomed to just hold his hands in his mouth for him until learns how.

He may be too young? My first born didn't take a paci until she was almost 3 months old. Even then I had to "teach" her to take it. Luckily she did. I know some people don't care if their kids don't take one, but for me a paci is a life saver and I knew from the beginning I always wanted my kids to use one to a certain point. Give it time, them try again, also keep in mind the size of the nipple. Pacifiers have specific sizes for age.

My girl loves the avent soothie pacifiers. They say a clean pinky finger too will work too.

Tried the soothie, even got the one with the plushie.. no go, and I don't put my fingers near his mouth anymore, that kid has jaws of steal lol, he's like a mini shark.
I never thought to look for nipple size, I know they make ones for preemies, I'll do some googling. I just feel bad cause he really needs the soothing but can quite figure out his hands.

I ordered Jude a jollypop pacifier online. My breast feeding support group leader swears by them. He seems to like those and the avent vented one. Funny thing is in the beginning I was dead set against a pacifier. He takes it sometimes, but he's not stuck on it. Dr recommended it bc of his lip n tongue tie. Good luck boo ☺️

I don't think you should push the binky situation, some babies just don't like them. The hospital I'm giving birth at strongly discourages them also. My son never liked them either

My son doesn't like them. They make him mad. He just cries a little then falls asleep on his own.

So, out of curiosity while he was trying to eat his hands last night, I put a drop of gripe water on the side of his thumb (he loves gripe water) and sure enough he finally got his thumb in his mouth. It was only the side/knuckle, but it worked and he settled right down.

MrsKFigs I was against them too but my girl has such a need to suck that we decided to give in for now. Especially since the first 3 months don't really make 'bad habits' for babies. After that point we will attempt to wean her and by 5/6 months shes definitely gonna be done.
