WTF is wrong with people

My son isn't even 2 weeks old yet, and my sister's friend (who Ive only met once) had the nerve to ask if I think he'll be autistic like his older brother and what I plan to do if he is cause it would be "horrible to have 2 of them". It took all my restraint not to attack her. First off my older son is high functioning (aspergers) and a great kid. Second I work with autistic kids and love them like my own. I have a healthy baby boy that I tried to have for 5 years.. he could have an extra head for all I care and I'd love him all the same. I really can't stand people sometimes. Needless to say my sister's friend is no longer welcome in my parents house.

Oh trust me, she got an earful, including from my 11 year old that she said this in front of. He happily informed her that his little brother would be lucky to be as awesome as he is and then politely told her to not let the door hit her where the good Lord split her.

Good for your son!! Speaking up for yourself is one quality we all should be lucky enough to have.

Thanks lf. We've worked so hard on getting him to stand up for himself. I was so proud of him tonight.

Just know, that people who do that sort of thing have a lot of unhappiness in their own lives and they are usually pretty jealous and empty people!! Screw her!

Seriously?? Do people not realize what they say while they're saying it?? I'm glad you and your son put her in her place. That just blows my mind how ignorant people can be!! Ugh! I'm sorry

Oh girl, I know where you're coming from! My older son has autism and my second son does not. We are having our first girl and I am amazed no one has even brought it up. During my last pregnancy people constantly asked me stuff like, "Are you doing things differently this pregnancy so this one won't have autism?" My husband is an atheist and one of his friends told him, "Its crazy you don't believe in God. Your second son doesn't have autism because I prayed for him not to have it"... like, really? So no one was praying for our first son?... Lol. I also hate it when people apologize that my oldest has autism, he's amazing and I wouldn't change him for the world. I don't think people understand that having a child with autism doesn't mean it's hard to love that child, the hard part for me is seeing my son face challenges most kids don't face.

So nosy for nothing, its none of her business! Some people just speak for the sake of speaking its so irritating honestly. So sorry hun.

My cousin has Asperger's syndrome and for school I've elected to study it and have done many presentations for different classes. It's my favorite topic to speak about bc so many ppl just don't get it. I'm so sorry I know she's your sisters friend, but she's an idiot. She clearly doesn't get it or have any knowledge of the extreme value and brilliance a person with Aspergers can have. What a waste of space- hopefully you won't have to see her again and she will not get the pleasure of being around either of your incredible children. Xoxo

Thanks everyone for the support. It definitely threw me for a loop. But like others have said, I just chalk it up to ignorance and general b**** iness. I'm sorry to the others mommas too who have had to deal with the ignorance as well. Normally I don't mind questions about it, cause most people are aware the chance is higher when you already have one, and there are a lot of misconceptions about autism and Im more than happy to open a discussion and help educate, but she was just nasty, still kinda wish I had punched her though lol.
