Supply while sick

So I’ve been fighting a head cold for a few days. When I pump, I’m lucky if I can even get 2.5 ounces from a 30 minute session.

My supply has taken a hit. I just assume the older they get the more solids they eat and the less milk we produce. Im only pumping 3 oz if im lucky when I used to get 5 at night. It sucks. I don't pump enough for 8 oz bottles when I'm working so we have been using formula to supplement. 50/50.

How long have you been giving formula along with breast milk?

Would it be okay to introduce formula to a baby at almost 8 months if I can’t keep my supply up when I go back to work?

I only have about 50oz of milk in the freezer. My MIL and DH will be watching him while I’m working and she’s freaking out that there won’t be enough mill for him. He’s drinking from me about every 3-4 hours during the day and eating 2-3 solid meals. I told her if we run out of milk or I’m not producing enough at work, to give him formula. But she thinks that will just completely screw up his stomach. She wants to give him more solid meals instead, but I said no. So idk

Gerber makes a formula that’s for supplementing and the ingredients replicate the proteins of breast milk

You should be okay to introduce, just slowly integrate. He may just have a hard time figuring out the taste. Besides you won’t have to worry about formula once he’s a year so 4 months of it really isn’t much

I've been using formula for about a month now. We started slowly by using 75% BM 25% Formula just to make sure she can handle it. She did fine like that for a couple weeks, then we did 50/50. I'm just NOW starting to entertain the idea of possibly using more formula than milk. Although I don't want to. I still want my milk to be her main nourishment. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Oh and we use Enfamil Gentlease. Supposed to be very good with gassy babies.

I thought I was going to use gentlease but I saw the ingredients and the first ingredient is corn syrup which I’m not comfortable with

I use gerber goodstart soothe which has probiotics to help with colic which Parker really struggled with as a newborn

Have you tried making an oatmeal drink? I'm not sure what to call it in English lol but I swear by it!! I got mastitis twice in the past couple months along with a flu and pneumonia. Last time I got it my supply took a huge plunge, it was back to normal within 2 days of drinking oatmeal and manually pumping(to help release the plugged duct). Can shoot you drink instructions if you'd like. Sorry you're feeling shifty. Feel better hun

Thanks ladies! I’ll get some formula for backup. And steph- I’ve never heard of the drink. If you have a recipe for one, dm me!

Try milkymama products. They make brownies, cookies, etc to help with your supply.
