Pelvic exam necessary?
I have an appointment with my midwife on Thursday. (It's a day before I'm officially 39 weeks). Would it be stupid of me to turn down a pelvic exam if they offer one? I haven't had one yet, and I just don't see the point in knowing anything until I'm actually in labor. Is there really a purpose in them checking?

It wouldn't be stupid at all. It really doesn't tell you anything as far as how close labor is and it increases your risk for infection. You can be dilated for weeks, or you can be closed and go into labor in a matter of hours(: They really aren't necessary and it can be discouraging if you are dilated early on and then end up going past your due date etc

My doctor doesn't do them unless there is indication of and issue or you are in active labor. He says there is no benefit and you are risking causing an infection. He doesn't to member sweeps until you are a week past your due date either.

I originally asked my doc to not do any but after seeing everyone post I HAD to know. I know it means nothing and they definitely aren't any fun so I won't have any more lol!

My dr does checks starting @ 37 weeks. I will decline until 39 weeks if I make it that long. No desire to know if I'm dialated & Im already GBS positive.
