I tried cutting out as many carbs as possible once and couldn't really get below 30% carbs. Veggies have carbs in them. So many things have carbs in them. I lost 10 lbs in a month and didn't gain it back (besides gaining from this pregnancy lol). I think both approaches sound fine. Really being healthy has more to do with moderation in all things more than anything.
Everyone is different, but if I cut out that many carbs it would be asking for trouble. When you hear about yoyo dieting, the culprit is normally being too restrictive and research shows that you tend to gain it back...plus more. So he can watch how many carbs he takes it, but they are a food group and important. Especially if he exercises, his body will want carbs. But things like quinoa, brown rice, whole grains are great options.
Agree with kadesteph! When I did do a similar diet with high protein I did allow myself a cheat day every 3-4 days. I allowed myself to eat what I wanted within my caloric limits for the day. Makes it much less likely to end up bingeing!
Thank you ladies! I'm trying to get him to look into counting macros. I did it for months before getting pregnant and it worked so well! I got in the best shape ever and I wasn't torturing myself by not eating the foods I love. He's just being stubborn
Hi there, I'm a dietitian. There are NO carbs in meats/proteins and fats. The only significant carbs your hubby can get from veggies are the starchy ones--potatoes, beans, peas, and corn. Anytime you cut out food groups you're losing out on certain vitamins and minerals your body needs. Since you're pregnant I wouldn't recommend you Eliminate all carbs in your diet. It's better to try and eat healthy complex carbs--starchy vegs, fruits, whole grains, milk&yogurt, etc. All foods in moderation is what we dietitians say!!
I think men handle the no carb diet better than women. Me personally I need healthy carbs like rice, fruit, veggies,.... My brain function really goes down when my carbs are super low. I say let him try it out and if it's something he can stick with then good for him lol. I think both ways can work but for me personally I need complex carbs.
My dh counts his macros.. when he's cutting to get lean he eats little to no carbs.. I'm talking like 0 to maybe 10% carbs in his daily intake.. and it works for him! I tried it too (before getting pregnant) and while I did lose weight quickly, my body responded poorly and I started missing periods. I noticed that for me to have my normal periods and still function at full capacity I need 20-25% carbs in my diet. Everyone is different, and as a few mentioned, I feel like men can handle no carbs way better than us women.

I agree with kadesteph, and I also think counting/balancing macros is best way to go!
