My appointments last maybe 5 minutes. The midwife comes in and asks how I am feeling, if I have any questions and then we listen to the heart beat. With my first pregnancy, closer to my EDD is when they asked more questions like where do you plan on delivering or do you have a birth plan.

I would start by doing a little reading, and that may bring up some questions you want to ask. The Complete Book of Pregnancy and Childbirth by Sheila Kitzinger is a great one, imo.

My doctor was the same way. We first met a couple weeks ago (I'm about 21 weeks) and this is my first pregnancy, so it's important to me. She came in and left so fast, I felt kind of neglected. Hope it gets better

Mines only last a couple minutes also unless they're doing any kind of testings. I go in, doctor measures my belly, ask if the baby is moving ok and if I have any questions, and listen to the heartbeat and that's it.

If everything is going well you dont need much medical attention. I could have not gone to any ob appts with my first because everything went perfect but of course you dont know everything is perfect until you check in and they take blood tests and glucose tests. The US show the most about what going on besides blood tests.

Yes everything is going well, I'm just planning on going natural and I wasn't sure if she would be more involved in helping me with that or if I needed to research everything myself.

I would ask questions about going natural if that's what you want :). Prenatal appts are very short most times. As long as they don't see any complications they send you on your way. I'm 32 weeks and the doc comes in asks if I've had any pain or pressure, does a urine sample to check for proteins, takes weight and blood pressure, measures my belly, and then listens to heartbeat. Only takes 5-10 mins. If I have any questions I ask. Like next week when I go I'm going to ask more about birth plan and all. They already know where I will be delivering because they share space with the hospital lol. When you get closer they will do internal checks.

Agree with above poster. My appointments consist of weigh in, blood pressure check, urine dip stick, listen to hb on doppler then OK see you in a month. Of course there is 28 week glucose test which is a drink and blood draw, 20-22 week anatomy scan, gbs swab around 33 or 34 weeks..today I'm 38+2 and had all the above checks (weight bp doppler etc ) and a cervical exam. Head down but cervix closed and high still. If your pregnancy is normal they don't spend much time. If your early on I wouldn't worry too much.

Im 35 weeks and mine are the same as above and i have often been wondering the same thing as you!! I was wondering why my doc hasnt even looked "down there" yet but my mom said not for another week or two

My appointment usually last about 20-25 minutes but I'm also high risk and have a really good relationship with my OBGYN.

They will help you go natural but you do have to prepare yourself. You will need to decide what method, etc.

You may want to research doulas if you are wanting active assistance.

I think I may look for a doula; this is my first time and really all of the information I have on what to expect and what do I've found by researching. Thank you everyone for your advice ?
